Prep Baseball Report

Open Letter to Michigan Players, Parents, and Coaches from Mike Penn

Players, Coaches, and Parents,

During the course of the past two years, Prep Baseball Report has become the number one trusted source for recruiting and amateur baseball news in the State of Michigan. For that fact, I am very proud of the work that has been done.

While Prep Baseball Report has experienced tremendous success and has helped numerous athletes achieve their dream, I have officially stepped down as the Director of Michigan.

While few are aware, I created a software company that provides an educational tool for teachers who teach kids with reading difficulties. While I love Prep Baseball Report, the software business has grown and has increasingly demanded more and more time.  Thus, I made the decision to step down in order to make sure that baseball players across the state got the attention they deserve.

While I will be stepping aside, I am confident that the structure that we have put in place is long lasting. We have built a comprehensive network of scouts and events that assists players along all spectrums of the recruiting process.

I am pleased to announce that former Western Michigan assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Brent Alwine ([email protected]) will be stepping up to fill my duties.

Alwine’s roots run deep within baseball and the state of Michigan. Prior to coaching at Western Michigan from 2010 to 2012, he coached at Creighton from 2008 to 2010. Before Creighton, he coached at his alma mater IPFW from 2006 to 2008. While playing at IPFW, Alwine started four years at second base. He attended high school at North Miami in Indiana where he was an all-state shortstop. Alwine holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue as well as a Master Degree in Liberal Studies from Indiana. He and his wife Brandi are proud parents of their son Beckett.

Additionally, Chris Valentine, who is the current owner and scouting director for PBR Ohio, will take ownership of PBR Michigan and serve as the executive director. Over the past three years, Valentine has helped countless players reach their goal of playing college baseball in Ohio. Like Alwine, he has a passion for the game of baseball and is well respected within the baseball community.

PBR Michigan will continue to cover amateur baseball across the state providing fair and accurate coverage that has become a trusted source for college coaches at all levels in Michigan and across the nation.

Sincerely,

Michael Penn
