Oregon Summer Kickoff - Uncommitted '22s

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Earlier this summer we kicked off our first series of events at Wilsonville HS.

Summer events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

We previously released the Statistical Leaders from our Oregon Summer Kickoff.

Now we're highlighting individual performers from the event. Starting with 5 uncommitted prospects in the 2022 class...

uncommitted 2022's

Jackson Bui OF / Jesuit, OR / 2022

5-foot-9, 165 with a compact build and some stout strength in the frame. Offensively sets up with a narrow, tall stance with front side slightly open. Hands start relaxed with bat in a flat position. Uses a low forward stride to create separation and elevate barrel into hitting position. Short, compact levers help him stay quick to the ball. Level path into contact with line-drive approach. Stays balanced while rotation through contact & maintains a stable base. Defensively profiles well to OF with L/L combo, ideally in a corner spot. Short, choppy footwork when moving laterally to the ball. Keeps momentum going while getting glove hand in position to field out in front just outside of his right leg. Gets behind the ball with a side shuffle move. High glove side into arm action with a long continuous path and ¾ release. Throws with intent and gets backside through as he finishes.

Garret Finch C / 2B / Gladstone, OR / 2022

5-foot-11, 170 pounds with a proportional build to his frame. Sets up in a box with feet at shoulder width apart & some weight pre-shifted onto backside. Stays tall on rear leg as he rocks back before making forward move. Hands start low then stretch back to rear shoulder as he lands in a wide, balanced base. Loose, easy barrel action with some late whip into contact. Gap to gap type power. Rhythmic hitter with repeatable actions and controlled intent. At catcher, sets up with square posture and low hips. Keeps core upright. Glove hand starts low & relaxed before working up to the ball as he receives. Simple, consistent exchange out of crouch. Breaks hands at just below chest height and syncs up footwork with arm path. Short, bent arm path with loose action out front at release. Flashed accuracy to the bag on his throws.

Dylan Ha 2B / RHP / Oregon City , OR / 2022

5-foot-10, 145 with a slight build. Wide upper half that projects to handle more size/strength. Offensively hits from a wide base with feet square to pitcher and upper half slightly coiled in. Back leg starts with some flexion and stays bent as he steps forward into a toe-tap load. Retracts his scap slightly to create some stretch against front side before launching swing. Moves well through his core and accelerates barrel with easy hip rotation. Flatter barrel path with minimal lift. More of a line-drive, up the middle approach. Stays inside of the ball. At SS, showed quick & fluid actions defensively. Very light on his feet with consistent momentum working through the baseball. Receives in center of body & flows into an easy exchange into throwing motion. Loose, whippy arm. On the mound, the athleticism & arm talent translate. Pitches with a slower, controlled tempo before getting into landing and ramping up the intent. Shows some bend on back leg during his leg lift. Slight drop and drive action as he extends glove side & works down the mound. Slight cross action in landing but it works for him due to his ability to rotate over his front side. Short, compact arm action with a quick path into a ¾ release. Reasonable to expect more velo to come with his arm action as he adds size/strength.

Danner Hamburg SS / RHP / Sandy , OR / 2022

5-foot-9, 165 lbs with a level upper half and strong lower body. Sets up in a narrowly open base with feet just outside of shoulder width apart. Uses a low leg lift to gather on back side. Gains minimal ground as he lands. Hands show a tight, rhythmic move to create momentum with barrel before swing. Stays tall at landing, giving him added leverage. Attacks the low pitch with consistent side-bend and an uphill barrel path. Created consistent lift during BP with repeatable effort. Defensively, moved well at SS with repeatable actions. Works down to the ball with a hip hinge at the waist and gets chest flat over his glove while funneling in. Stays behind the ball then aggressively comes through with added footwork during exchange. Tight, short arm action from a lower release. On the mound, presented a unique look from a lower, true side-arm slot. Sets up from the extreme 1st base side of the rubber then lands towards the middle. Presenting a tough look to both RHH and LHH. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Deliberate tempo/pace into leg lift before taking average stride length into landing. Gets extension over front side with torso and stays behind the ball throughout. Creates run/cut out of hand on everything he throws.

Ryan Hart OF / LHP / Jesuit , OR / 2022

6-foot, 170 pounds with a bit more size and mass than we saw on our previous look. At the plate, the stance has become a bit more narrow with some added bend in his lower half. Short, controlled forward move into landing. Hands shift back slightly to load, staying level with rear shoulder. Middle of the field approach with gap to gap power. Uses a quick, direct path to the ball with a high, abbreviated finish. Showed progress in both avg exit velocity & peak velocity while flashing more bat speed. In the OF, moved well and showed confident actions. Short, confident footwork when approaching the ball. Stays behind the ball then gains momentum while funneling in. Rotates front side towards target and uses a side shuffle into throwing motion. Short, tight arm path with a low ¾ release. On the mound, shows the same release point with a longer, more extended arm action. Steady, consistent pace to delivery. Balanced leg load with eyes on target and level shoulders. Stride leg opens up to give clean direction towards target. Stays tall with limited extension after release. Aggressive finish out front.
