Grandview 6 Arapahoe 2

LITTLETON - Coming into the game the Grandview Wolverines and Arapahoe Warriors probably had locker room talks about how this was a must win. Arapahoe, coming off a cinderella 2018 season in which they reached the 5A Final Four had a record of 0-6 going into the Centennial League opener. Grandview, a traditional 5A powerhouse came within one win of reaching the 5A Final 8 in 2018, had a 1-5 record entering this game.

The Warriors would start uncommitted 2020 6-foot-7 RHP Spy Turnbeaugh on the mound. The Wolves would counter with uncommitted RHP 2020 Garrett Lippold. That would be the highlight of this game for 6 innings.

In the top of the 2nd 2019 OF Peter Goldy for the Wolves would fly out to left field, but it was dropped, and would advance all the way to 3rd. Turbeaugh would end up pitching out of the jam by getting 2020 C Tony Castonguay to ground out to 3rd to hold the runner, strikeout 2019 Josh Hojnowski looking, then get DH Chris Bollefer to ground out.

2019 OF Max Wilson for Arapahoe would get the Warriors on the board in the bottom of the fourth by driving in 2019 SS Cooper Marks who led the inning off with a single.

Grandview would answer in the top of the 5th with a solo home run by Bollefer.

Grandview would generate 2 runs in the top of the 6th off a couple of miscues by the Warriors defense, and they put the game away in the top of the 7th inning hitting three consecutive doubles off the bats of 2020 OF Isaac Smith, 2019 OF Jayden Martinez, and then another double by Goldy. 2021 3B would hit the fourth double of the inning with 2-outs to put the Wolves up 6-1.

The Warriors would fall to 0-7 on the season after missing out on a quality start from Turnbeaugh. The Wolves would move to 2-5 benefitting from an offense that finally woke up in the 7th, and Lippold throwing a complete game.

Both teams will play again on Thursday April 4th at Grandview.
