The PBR Scout Day- Sioux Falls Cyclones event took place on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. The event was held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. The event featured prospects from the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes from the Sioux Falls Cyclones baseball program who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

EVALUATIONS (ALPHABETICAL)

Evan Appelwick, 2B, Madison, 2021
5-foot-6, 130-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.75 runner. Spread stance with leg kick trigger, flat swing plane through contact, gap to gap approach, spray contact across field, consistently hitting solid ground balls, 84 mph exit velocity off tee. Works low to ground with solid actions for 2021, shows soft hands, has accuracy to bag, 69 mph arm strength across infield.

Jack Blogg, 2B/RHP, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, 2018
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.58 runner. Tall open stance, uses lower half well in swing, average rhythm in load and swing, produces consistent hard pull ground ball contact with flashes of pop in bat, 85 mph exit velocity. Shows soft hands in field, works through ball with clean exchanges, throws have carry and accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm across infield. On mound; simple turn into balance point, repeats well, short arm action with some extension out front. 80-82 mph fastball is delivered downhill with flashes of life. Breaking ball was 69-71 mph with tight rotation, 11/5 shape, and above avg. depth. Shows good feel for late running changeup at 73-74 mph for strikes.

Nate Brecht, RHP, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2019
6-foot-6, 215-pound right-handed hitting pitcher. Large build on mound, some tempo to delivery, will leak out of balance point early, short arm action. Varying action on 75-76 mph fastball elevated in zone. 64-65 mph curveball has early break with solid 11/5 shape. Flashes solid arm-side action with fade and sink on 65-67 mph changeup.

Cade Calmus, 2B/RHP, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 2021
5-foot-5, 144-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.2 runner. Crouched stance with short stride, early load with avg. rhythm in swing, produces line drive and ground ball contact with gap to gap approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Tends to play flat-footed, late glove presentation, shows ability to field routine, short arm action producing 65 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; simple rocker step into athletic balance point, short arm action producing downhill plane on 67-68 mph fastball. 11/5 shape with short break on 59-62 mph curveball. Occasional fade and sink on 62-63 mph changeup.

Matthew Gillogly, 1B, Dell Rapids, 2018
6-foot-2, 220-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.32 runner. Active hand load, occasional timing issues, clean path through contact, fly ball and line drive contact to middle/pull side of field with flashes of pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Moves well in field, soft hands, active around bag, quick release on throws to turn double plays, 74 mph arm strength across infield.

Alex Glanzer, SS, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2018
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 6.87 runner. Slight crouch with open stance, strides to square, shows good bat control, ability to use oppo field, consistent solid contact with whole fields approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Shows soft hands in field, works through ball, short arm action with quick release, has accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm across infield.

Carter Gullickson, 2B, Dell Rapids, 2018
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.18 runner. Tall open stance, leg kick trigger, produces above avg. bat speed, extra movements in swing effect timing, hard line drive contact with mid/pull approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Loose low ¾ arm action, quick release, above avg. hands, proto second baseman, 68 mph arm strength across field.

Ryne Hammerstrom, SS, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2021
5-foot-8, 135-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 6.97 runner. Crouched stance, minimal stride, bat tilt trigger, stiff lower half in swing, consistent ground ball contact, gap to gap approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Works through ball, avg. hands, tends to move with choppy steps, shows accuracy to bag with 71 mph infield arm. Shows avg. action in outfield, has accuracy to target, 75 mph outfield arm.

Zach Hanson, LHP/1B, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2019
6-foot-3, 200-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Simple turn into athletic balance position, stiff front side with lower tucked glove position, short hitchy arm action. Fastball was 70-72 mph with inconsistent feel for zone. 59-61 mph breaking ball had loose 2/8 shape with early break. Changeup was firm with tumbling action to plate at 63-66 mph. 7.32 runner. Pre-set load and stride, inconsistent contact, gap to gap approach, spray contact across field, 81 mph exit velocity. High fielding position, average glove, usable receiver around bag, 65 mph infield arm.

Ayden Hanson, C/3B, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2021
5-foot-7, 137-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.94 runner. Short stride, lacks balance in swing, spray contact, mid/pull approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Has athleticism with raw mechanics. Moves with quickness in field, sure hands, accurate to bag, 64 mph arm across infield. 63 mph arm from behind plate with 2.51-2.58 pop times.

Payton Hughes, SS, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2021
5-foot-6, 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.89 runner. Tall stance with easy load, limited path through zone, pulls off contact early, flashes solid contact, pull approach, 73 mph exit velocity. Avg. hands and feet, has sure hands, accurate to bag, 61 mph arm strength across infield.

Payton Kleinsasser, 3B/RHP, Harrisburg, 2020
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting 3-way player. 7.01 runner. Tall athletic setup, some stiffness to swing, produces solid bat speed, mid/pull approach with flashes of pop in bat, 81 mph exit velocity. Athletic actions in outfield, aggressive routes, plays through ball with quickness, throws have carry and accuracy with 79 mph arm from outfield. On mound; simple mechanics out of strength, quick arm with extension out front, hides ball from hitter. 74-76 mph fastball has late cutting action for strikes. 62-65 mph curveball has tight rotation, short sideways break, with above avg. depth. 65-66 mph changeup has above avg. late fade. Strong follow in 2020 class.

Jaxon LaBrie, SS/RHP, Brandon Valley, 2020
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.57 runner. Crouched stance with body load, stays down and through contact, uses both sides of field, shows ability to drive ball oppo, good hand-eye coordination, 75 mph exit velocity. Has flashes of actions in field, good footwork, sure hands, throws have carry and accuracy to bag with 73 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; tuck and turn delivery, hides ball from hitter, clean arm action with extension out front. 69-71 mph fastball has varying sink and cut with depth. 59-62 mph curveball is thrown for strikes with early break and 11/5 shape. 61-63 mph changeup has fade and LaBrie shows feel for zone with pitch.

Charles Lockwood-Powell, RHP/OF, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2021
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.57 runner. Balanced stance, deeper load, slight lift in swing plane, spray contact across field, 77 mph exit velocity. Solid actions, short hitchy arm action, accurate throws to plate, 69 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; short balance point, lands across body, short arm action cutting across body. 66-69 mph fastball is straight with occasional run and sink. Short break on 58-60 mph curveball with 11/5 shape. Flashes of fade and sink on stiff 57-60 mph changeup.

Oscar Lockwood-Powell, C, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2022
5-foot-7, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 8.28 runner. Tall open stance, limited use of lower half, contact to all field, 72 mph exit velocity. Short arm action, tends to throw uphill, clean exchanges, young player that should continue to improve with work. 61 mph arm behind plate with 2.44-2.53 pop times. 65 mph outfield arm.

Zach Nagel, LHP/OF, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 2018
6-foot-3, 165-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; slight uncontrolled front leg, good extension out front, has athletic actions on mound. Hides 77-78 mph fastball from hitter, delivered on downhill plane, with late run and cut action. Shows ability to land 59-62 mph curveball with avg. 1/7 shape and depth. 70-71 mph changeup is occasionally firm causing flat action to plate. 7.27 runner. Easy body load with solid bat speed, uses both gaps well, shows ability to drive baseball to oppo gap, 85 mph exit velocity. Good actions in field, creates direction on throws, works through ball, with accuracy to target, 79 mph arm strength from outfield.

Stewart Nickel, LHP/1B, 2021
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.75 runner. Choppy rhythm, mid/away approach, out front at contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Sure hands at first, has footwork around bag, ability to turn double play, 67 mph arm across infield. On mound; crouched turn in balance point, minimal extension, short arm action cutting across body. 66-69 mph fastball showed flat action to plate. 53-55 mph curveball has loose 12/6 shape with early break. 58-59 mph changeup has tumbling action to plate.

Logan Nolz, OF, Brandon Valley, 2018
6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Lean athletic build. 6.77 runner. Balanced stance, drops hands into lower slot, consistent hard contact, flashes pop in bat to gaps, 81 mph exit velocity. Decent athlete in field, works through ball, quick release on throws, avg. carry with solid accuracy to target, 80 mph arm from outfield.

Avery Nordbye, OF, Baltic, 2020
5-foot-9, 163-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.27 runner. Balanced stance, flat swing plane, consistent solid contact, pull approach producing ground ball and fly ball contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Late glove presentation, avg. footwork, low slingy arm action, 61 mph arm across infield. Solid actions in outfield, tends to to stop after release, avg. accuracy to target, 71 mph arm across outfield.

Joey Ostermyer, RHP/OF, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, 2020
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; has tempo with athletic actions, drop and drive tendencies, clean arm action. Works bottom of zone with 72-74 mph fastball; flashing run and sink. 64-66 mph curveball, released out front, has solid spin and shape with quality depth. Keeps 65-66 mph changeup in bottom of zone with avg. action. 7.26 runner. Slight crouch in athletic stance, uses both gaps, consistent line drive hitter, 70 mph exit velocity. Shows good footwork, sure hands in field, long release on throws, has accuracy with 73 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jack Rabern, OF/RHP, Harrisburg, 2020
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Athletic build with present strength. 6.71 runner. Square stance with leg kick trigger, tends to slice through contact, aggressive approach, flashes hard line drive contact to mid/pull side of field occasional pop in bat, 81 mph exit velocity. Plays with quickness, raw footwork, sure hands, has carry and accuracy on throws, 81 mph arm strength from outfield.

Ayden Sand, RHP, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2020
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting pitcher. Simple step and turn into balance point, tends to leak down mound early, ¾ arm slot, lands in-line to plate, avg. extension on release. 68-70 mph fastball was elevated in zone with flat action. Solid 11/5 shape on 63-65 mph curveball with flashes of depth. 63-66 mph changeup is in the developmental stage.

Tyler Sandbulte, SS, Sioux Falls Washington, 2020
5-foot-7, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.26 runner. Square stance, double tap trigger, deep load with arm bar, spray contact with gap to gap approach, 72 mph exit velocity. Has some quickness, avg. hands and feet, shows accuracy to bag, 65 mph arm strength across infield.

Jacob Schwab, OF/C/RHP, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 2021
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.77 runner. Square stance, slight front heel turn trigger, inconsistent contact, spray across field, 78 mph exit velocity. Average accuracy to target, limited momentum on throws, 73 mph arm from outfield. Raw mechanics, long release on throws, 64 mph arm behind plate with 2.45-2.51 pop times.

Sam Siegel, 3B, Sioux Falls Lincoln, 2020
5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed hitting third baseman. 7.3 runner. Square stance, double tap trigger, shows rhythm in swing, deep load with arm bar, consistent solid contact, mid/away approach, 74 mph exit velocity. Decent athlete in field, avg. hands, solid footwork, accurate throws to bag, 68 mph arm strength across infield.

Jake Steineke, SS/RHP, Dell Rapids, 2020
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Present strong build. 8.02 runner. Body load, underneath at contact, shows pop in bat, clean path to contact, 88 mph exit velocity. Sits back to field, avg. hands and feet, solid accuracy and carry to bag, 71 mph arm strength across field. On mound; simple turn into balance point, long on backside- clean compact arm action out front. Downhill plane on 73-74 mph fastball with straight action. 11/5 shape on 62-64 mph curveball. 64-65 mph changeup is straight and firm presently.

Cade Wallace, C, Harrisburg, 2020
5-foot-9, 130-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.51 runner. Pre-set hands, body load, wide stance, flat swing path, mid/away approach, line drive and ground ball contact, 60 mph exit velocity. Decent athlete in field, long arm action, avg. accuracy to target, 66 mph arm from outfield. Flexible behind plate, proper blocking mechanics, quick exchange and release on throws, 63 mph arm behind plate with 2.4-2.51 pop times.

Will Washenberger, 1B/RHP, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 2020
6-foot-3, 240-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Large build for freshman with present strength. 8.19 runner. Tall stance, easy load, clean path, stiff finish through contact, flashes well above power for age, pull approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, solid defender, shows footwork around bag with ability to receive, 65 mph arm across field. On mound; simple turn into tall balance point, good direction to plate with extension. Flat action on 71-76 mph fastball for strikes. Avg. depth on 63-64 mph curveball with solid 11/5 shape. Flat action on 66-68 mph changeup; thrown with stiff wrist.

Zeb Wede, RHP/OF, Harrisburg, 2020
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.15 runner. Athletic stance, easy load with clean path through contact, shows bat speed, pull approach, with hard ground ball and line drive contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Quick twitch actions in field, moves through baseball, throws have carry and accuracy to target. 80 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; long loose ¾ arm action, has tempo to delivery with extension to plate. Hides ball to hitter, works bottom of zone, 77-79 mph fastball is thrown for strikes with late sinking action. 72-73 mph curveball is above average, has short break with tight spin and depth. 71-73 mph changeup is firm; flashes solid action in bottom of zone. Strong follow in 2020 class.

Tate Wishard, 2B, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 2020
5-foot-9, 185-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.02 runner. Pre-set hands, some stiffness in lower half, mid/pull approach producing solid line drive and ground ball contact, 87 mph exit velocity. Tends to sit back on ground balls, sure hands, avg. actions, avg. accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.
