PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: Gladstone vs Mason County Central

Traverse City - Mason County Central came ready to hit in Tuesday’s Division 3 Quarterfinal match-up with Gladstone, advancing to the State Semi-finals with a 8-2 victory.

After working around a leadoff walk, Mason County Central jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning as Blake Bladzik drove a two-run double to the left-center gap. Bladzik tried to stretch the hit into a triple but was thrown out at third base.

Gladstone responded in the second inning with two runs of their own as 2017 SS Ben Schwallbach singled to lead off the inning and was driven in by 2017 Hunter Botruff’s double. Botruff then was driven in by a double from 2018 Braeden Lamberg to tie the game 2-2.

Mason County Central was able to load the bases in the bottom of the second inning behind two hit by pitches and a single. With the bases loaded, Spencer Knizacky brought home two runs with a single to put Mason County Central ahead 4-2. The bases were loaded again after an error and a run was brought home as  the next batter was walked. Cody Soberalski then made it a 7-2 ball game with a two-run single. This was all starter Nolan Asiala needed as he kept Gladstone off the board the rest of the way.

Mason County Central was able to add their eighth and final run in the fifth inning after a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt and two passed balls.

Starter Nolan Asiala went the distance, striking out four and scattering six hits to help lead Mason County Central into the semi-finals.
