PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: Mount Pleasant vs Saginaw Heritage

Mt. Pleasant - In a crucial Saginaw Valley League game that would have implications for first-place, Mt. Pleasant came out on top of Saginaw Heritage by a score of 6-4.

2017 RHP Logan Buczkowski for Mt. Pleasant, who recently committed to Central Michigan, traded shutout innings with Saginaw Heritage’s 2016 RHP Mason Schwellenbach (Saginaw Valley State) through the first three innings.

Both pitchers stranded a few runners in those three innings, then ran into trouble in the fourth inning.

With one-out in the fourth inning, 2018 SS/RHP Spencer Schwellenbach reached on a hit by pitch then we driven in by a double from 2016 P/1B Trace Painter. Buczkowski was able to strand Painter as he got a fly out and a groundout.

Mt. Pleasant responded immediately on back-to-back doubles by 2016 1B Max Trucks (Davenport) and Buczkowski to tie the game.

2017 SS Obie Ricumstrict (Cincinnati) then hit a home run to left field to go up 3-1.

Mt. Pleasant was able to plate three more runs in the fourth inning highlighted by an RBI single from Trucks to take a 6-1 lead into the fifth inning.

Heritage responded in the fifth inning as 2017 OF Noah Marcoux hit a three-run home run to right field that brought the score to 6-4.

Buczkowski then retired the next three hitters to preserve the lead for Mt. Pleasant.

After a 1-2-3 inning in the home half of the fifth, Heritage was able to chase Buczkowski with a one-out single in the sixth inning.

2017 LHP Cameron Mitchell relieved Buczkowski and gave up a single and a hit by pitch to the first two batters he faced to load the bases.

Mitchell worked out of this jam by getting the next two hitters to go down looking on strikes and followed it up with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to record the save for Mt. Pleasant.
