By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

As we fully turn our attention to the new year and what lies ahead, our staff did want to take some time to shine light on a multitude of players who put up impressive showings at our events in 2022.

There were several performances throughout the 40+ showcases we ran last year that were really impressive, yet those highlighted below left a lasting impression on us with the year at a close.

Continue reading to learn more about some of the loudest workouts we saw in 2022.

Ashton Williams RHP / Kennett, MO / 2024

Event: Bootheel Preseason ID

Williams started the year off strong at the Bootheel Preseason ID, the first event we ran in 2022. There, Williams ran a 4.16 home-to-first with a peak exit velocity of 98.7 mph, averaging 88.4 mph per batted ball. He reached back and pumped a 90 mph strike from the outfield in his defensive workout, jumping on the mound later with an 87.4 mph peak fastball too. Williams would go on to represent Team Missouri at the PBR Future Games in the summer and is a top prospect in the state’s 2024 class.

Jack Holubowski 3B / Marquette, MO / 2023

Event: Preseason All-State

Another Missouri commit, Holubowski’s batting practice showing at last year’s Preseason All-State was the loudest we saw throughout 2022. Physically built at 6-for-2, 205-pounds, Holubowski clobbered balls at 96.1 mph average - the highest in all of 2022 from a Missouri native - and reached a peak exit velocity of 98.8 mph. He also ran a 7.23 60-yard dash and topped at 90 mph across the infield.

Kaden Peer CF / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2023

Event: Preseason All-State

Peer kicked off a productive 2022 last February by putting together a dynamic showing at the Preseason All-State. A PBR Future Games alum and Missouri commit, the 6-foot-2, 178-pound Peer dashed his way to a 6.88 60, which was one of the event’s fastest marks. He averaged upper-80s exit velocities from his athletic left-handed barrel, maxing out at 97.5 mph in BP. Peer’s tools were more so on display from the outfield when he uncorked a 95 mph laser to home - the firmest bullet across the 41 events we ran last year.

Camron Poe LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2023

Event: Preseason All-State

Poe’s ‘pen at the Preseason All-State was truly dynamic, as the 6-foot-3, 200-pound southpaw looked every bit the part of a top-of-the-line prospect in the state’s senior class. Committed to Duke, Poe’s hardest fastball registered at 93.5 mph on our TrackMan, and he steadily pitched in the low-90s throughout. Poe threw three secondaries off his fastball, including a low-spin changeup with 16+ inches of run on average that really impressed in this look. He’s headed to the Super 60 in early February, where he’s certain to generate plenty of buzz.

Andrew DuMont RHP / St. Louis University, MO / 2024

Event: Rawlings Tigers Scout Day

Few in the Midwest’s 2024 group have the sheer arm talent that DuMont does, and the Tennessee commit put that on full display for our staff last February. There, DuMont pitched at 88-91 mph with his fastball, working the corners with consistency, and featured two advanced secondaries in the process. His breaking ball in particular, which plays in the mid-to-high-70s right now, has all the makings of a swing-and-miss offering. DuMont dominated on the mound last year - something he’ll look to repeat in 2023.

Leo Humbert OF / Francis Howell , MO / 2025

Event: Rawlings Tigers Scout Day

Humbert solidified his status as an elite name in Missouri’s 2025 class, and his workout at the Rawlings Tigers Scout day last February started that process. Then a freshman, Humbert ran a 4.22 home-to-first time at that event with a max exit velocity of 99 mph off a tee. He showed plenty of arm strength during his defensive workout, something we’ve seen translate to gameplay for the left-hander, and fired an 89 mph bullet on his firmest throw. After helping lead Francis Howell to the 6A state semifinals as a freshman, Humbert’s set to build off a productive 2022 this upcoming year.

Aiden Doll OF / Blue Springs South, MO / 2023

Event: US Nationals Scout Day

A recent Angelo State University commit, Doll’s loud tools have caught our staff’s eye in the past and was one of the reasons we touted him as a top uncommitted senior a few weeks ago. A wiry 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete, Doll’s arm strength may be his carrying tool. He showed that at one of our scout days in February, pumping his fastball at 87-88 mph with clear upward carry through the zone. Doll’s arm strength showed from the outfield (94 mph) and he also ran a 4.08 home to first early in the event.

Tyler Wood OF / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2025

Event: US Nationals Scout Day

Wood remains one of Missouri’s most coveted 2025 graduates and the 6-foot-3, 190-pound phenom put his loud array of tools on display at the US Nationals Scout Day last February. He ran a 3.94 home to first at that event, which is a well advanced run time, and was also up to 93 mph from the outfield before he even played an inning of high school baseball. That arm talent is apparent on the mound, where Wood’s ceiling may be the highest. He boasts electric arm speed and produced mid-to-high-80s heat in this ‘pen, topping at 88 mph, though we saw him reach higher than that mark in the summer. Wood, who’s the state’s top uncommitted 2025, is certainly one to know as the high school season approaches.

Wil Libbert LHP / Blair Oaks , MO / 2023

Event: Warriors Scout Day

Libbert’s 2022 was dominant, and one of the state’s top left-handed arms proved that to us at several stops across the way. He starred for Blair Oaks throughout the MSHSAA season and even turned heads at Area Codes, continuously showcasing above-average feel for a strong three pitch mix. The Mizzou commit displayed that to our staff in the winter at the Warriors Scout Day, bumping a 93 mph max with his fastball, while pitching at 91-93 mph in his ‘pen. He spun a sharp top-to-bottom breaking ball off that heater and worked arm-side with his changeup in the upper-70s velocity band. We’re expecting Libbert to shine again for his high school squad this spring, and the 6-foot-1, 200-pound southpaw is certainly on the shortlist for ‘Player of the Year’ candidates.

Adam Kilburn RHP / Oakville , MO / 2025

Event: Gamers Scout Day

Kilburn’s 2022 penciled him in towards the top of Missouri’s 2025 class and he committed to Tennessee roughly midway through the summer. We saw Kilburn in early February in an impressive ‘pen, where the 6-foot-1, 175-pound then freshman ran his fastball up to 88.9 mph with 2300+ RPM and 20+ inches of IVB at peak. He spun two breaking balls, one with slightly more lateral action than the other, and mixed in an upper-70s changeup in that look as well. It was a strong showing from a premier arm in the state.

Caden Bogenpohl OF / Jackson , MO / 2023

Event: A's Scout Day

Bogenpohl’s explosive showing at the A’s Scout Day was hard to forget and the sheer power he produces on both sides of the ball are astounding. Though there’s still room to add strength, Bogenpohl’s 6-foot-5, 230-pound frame certainly stands out physically. At this February event, the Missouri State signee ran a 6.95 60-yard dash with a 101 mph max exit velocity and 92 mph arm strength from the outfield. He later hopped on the mound and pumped his fastball at 90-92 mph. Bogenpohl’s tools on both sides of the ball are impressive and he’s a name that, on a talented Jackson squad, should garner some professional buzz in the spring.

Sebastian Norman 3B / Glendale , MO / 2025

Event: Midwest Mavericks Scout Day

The Midwest Mavericks Scout Day in June was the first time our staff saw Norman up close in a showcase setting and the current Oklahoma State recruit certainly didn’t disappoint. At 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, Norman’s athleticism is astoundingly advanced for his age, and he ran a 6.43 60 to start off his workout, which ranks towards the top nationally for players in the 2025 class. His 99 mph exit velocity and 88 mph max fastball only add to an already potent set of tools - one that rivals anyone in the state of Missouri.

Xander Schmitt C / Lafayette, MO / 2024

Event: St. Louis Top Prospect Games

Schmitt’s performance at the St. Louis Top Prospect games this past June was arguably the most impressive workout we saw in the summer. Schmitt took a polished, yet loud, round of batting practice, averaging 90.8 mph per batted ball with a 101.5 mph peak that traveled an estimated 386 feet. Aside from his inherent strength, Schmitt also ran a 6.68 60-yard dash and was up to 80 mph from behind the plate, popping a 1.86 on his quickest bullet to second base. This performance earned Schmitt an invite to the PBR Future Games, where he eventually came away as the event’s MVP - the first ever from Missouri.

Mason Beno SS / Parkway West, MO / 2024

Event: St. Louis Top Prospect Games

Beno’s two-way showing at Maryville in June was one of the day’s best, and it ultimately earned the Parkway West junior an invitation to the Future Games. Beno showed a short, clean left-handed swing in batting practice, peppering line drives rather effortlessly throughout his round. He showed soft, sure-handed actions defensively on the infield, proving capable of sticking on the infield down the road. Afterwards, Beno hopped on the mound and ran his fastball up to 87.6 mph with a tight 74-76 mph slider at 2500+ RPM to pair. On more than one occasion last year, Beno showed our staff true talents on both sides of the ball.

Ryker Edwards OF / Smithville , MO / 2023

Event: MOKAN Upperclass Games

Edwards has some of the loudest tools in Missouri’s 2023 class and the Johnson County CC commit put his athleticism on full display at the MOKAN Upperclass Games this June. Standing at a muscular 6-foot, 190-pounds, Edwards blazed to a 6.55 60 on our Swift lasers, posting a 1.66 10-yard split with a 21.9 mph peak run speed and 33 inch vertical jump. Edwards found the barrel with authority in BP, averaging 92.7 mph per batted ball with a 100.8 mph max. He proved capable of repeating that quality of contact on deep batted balls, including a 296 ft. average while maxing at 391 ft.

John-Paul Sauer RHP / Jackson , MO / 2024

Event: PBR Future Games

Sauer started for Team Missouri in the final game of the Future Games and, after a lengthy rain storm delayed his outing, absolutely dominated on the mound. He shoved for his two innings, striking out every batter he faced and routinely attacking hitters at 88-91 mph with his fastball. Sauer paired that with his bread-and-butter slider - a pitch that spins at 2500+ RPM with late, swing-and-miss sweep in the upper-70s. The buzz that he generated from his outing was felt amongst the crowd and made for one of the more memorable moments of 2022 for our staff.

Brody Irlbeck LHP / Staley, MO / 2025

Event: MO Fall Underclass Games

A few months following his commitment to Iowa, Irlbeck popped up after an impressive summer circuit at our Missouri Fall Underclass Games in September. Packed with projection on a lean, wiry 6-foot, 160-pound frame, Irlbeck dominated on the bump in his outing, effortlessly and effectively toeing the rubber for two quality frames. He pitched at 83-86 mph with his fastball from a loose ¾ slot and featured one of the state’s premier changeups - a true swing-and-miss pitch with late fading action to the arm-side. Irlbeck rounded out his arsenal by sweeping a slider on occasion, and it’s a pitch that could greatly improve with more comfort and feel down the road. He’s entrenched himself within the top-25 prospects on our 2025 class board with room to climb upwards as he continues to improve.

Anden Hyde 3B / Lutheran St. Charles, MO / 2026

Event: Recruits Scout Day

Hyde’s inherent ability to damage the baseball is powerful, especially because he’s a freshman that’s still fully learning how to utilize his strength. Hyde hits the ball as hard as anyone in the entire state, regardless of class, both at peak and on average. He sent his firmest batted ball of 2022 roughly 380 feet and barreled one up in BP at the Recruits Scout Day in late October at 99 mph. Built at 6-foot, 195-pounds, Hyde’s natural bat strength carries loudly amongst his peers.

Drew Dickerson SS / Lees Summit West, MO / 2024

Event: MOKAN Open

It’s hard to ignore the tools and upside that Dickerson brings to the diamond, and his all-around showing at the MOKAN Open this fall was a direct reflection of that. He’s ranked inside the top-70 prospects in the entire country for the 2024 class and the 6-foot-4, 203-pound Mizzou commit may have one of the highest ceilings in the entire Midwest. Dickerson darted to a 6.71 60-yard dash to kick his workout off and proceeded that by ambushing baseballs throughout BP. He peaked at 104.8 mph, averaging 94 mph per batted ball from a highly projectable and efficient right-handed stroke. On top of his power/speed combo, Dickerson also reached an 88 mph max across the infield, flashing carry through his target. His off-the-chart tools and athleticism have Dickerson heading into the new year with plenty of positive momentum.
