PBR New England Spotlight Game: BFA St. Albans vs Champlain Valley

Hinesburg, Vt.-- Mark Connor (2016 RHP/IF) hurled a three-hitter and drove in five runs to lead improved Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans to a 14-2 road rout of Vermont power Champlain Valley Union Friday afternoon.

The Clarkson-bound Connor did not walk a batter, struck out nine and neither run was earned in a crisp 86-pitch outing against the Red Hawks, who were ranked first in the latest PBR Vermont Power Rankings. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run single in a three-run fourth and put the game away with a long double to center field that cleared the bases in a seven-run sixth.

The seventh-ranked Bobwhites (6-1) ran their win streak to five with the CVU win Friday, a day after handing previously unbeaten and third-ranked South Burlington its first loss of the year. They scored 30 runs in the two-day stretch after a 16-12 comeback win over the Rebels.

A two-run single in the first by Brady Green (2017, 3B) and three runs in both the second and fourth made it 8-0 halfway through the game. The eight runs were more than enough for Connor who didn't allow a hit until a leadoff double by Champlain Valley senior CF Jack Dugan in the fourth. Dugan would move up on a wild pitch and score on a passed ball before Connor would strike out the rest of the side to end any threat.

After the double and including the three Ks, Connor would retire 11 straight hitters until a single by Collin Vincent with two-outs in the seventh. After an error on the next hitter, Liam Reiner (C/RHP, 2018) doubled to center to score Vincent to make it 14-2 before Connor retired the next hitter to end the contest.

BFA St. Albans had nine hits and took advantage of 12 walks and five CVU errors. Bobwhites leadoff hitter and senior shortstop Tyler Tatro went 2-for-2 with three walks and scored four times. Bennett Coseo (OF, 2017) also went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and two RBI.
