PBR OK Great Plains Summer Championships Scout Blog: ORU Day 1

We had a great day of baseball on day one here at the Great Plains Summer Championship. There was talent all over the field in both the 16U and 17U division. Below are our notes on top preformers from the games at ORU. 

Game 1

OKC Sandlot Painter 17U vs Arkansas Knights 17U: 4-7

Painter

Carson Pierce, Edmond North, RHP/1B, 2020
A long, lean, and projectable 6-for-3, 190-pound frame, Pierce will likely finding himself focusing on the mound at the next level with his upper 80s low 90s fastball with late life, but he showed he is athletic enough to swing it too, going 2-for-3 with a rocket double, single, and three RBI.  

Arkansas Knights

Cole Kitchens, Bentonville West, 3B/RHP,  2022
A lean 6-foot, 170-pound lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter hits with a controlled leg kick, staying on balance before launching his hands on a flat path with some length. Shows barrel control and some bats speed. Went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a line out to short.

Jace Bray, Rogers, LHP, 2020
The long and lean 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Bray showed a loose, long, and clean arm action coming through a ¾ slot. The fastball sat 80-83 early and fell off in his second and third inning. The slider shows fade at 71 mph and the breaking ball had big 1/7 rolling shape at 62-63 mph. It was not a clean outing for Bray, but his arm action, lean frame, and low effort delivery that a velo jump may be right around the corner.

Game 2

Swat 17U vs Blanchard 17U: 10-0

Josh Sanders, RHP, Yukon, 2020 (Texas Tech)
The Red Raider commit has a 6-foot-4, 175-pound, lean and projectable frame. The right-hander throws with a cross-fire delivery commanding both sides of the plate with the fastball and slider. Fastball sits 84-86 T87 with arm side run. Slider has big 10/4 shape with tight spin at 74-76 mph. Sanders tossed 4 scoreless, allowing just one hit and punching out seven.

Jacob Brandenberger, 3B/RHP, Putnam City West, 2020
A 6-foot, 205-pound frame with strength throughout. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 with a 2 RBI line drive single to center and a walk. Brandenberger moves very well for his size and is advanced defensively.

Cade Williamson, 1B, Mustang, 2020
A 6-foot-4, 245-pound hulking frame with some strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows a slightly uphill approach and some length with barrel strength. In the game, Williamson went 1-for-1 with an RBI 1B, sac fly, and a walk.

Game 3

Sandlot Tulsa Roberts 16U vs MacnSeitz Black Sox: 9-0

Chance Condit, C/3B/RHP, Salina, 2021
A physically advanced 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, Condit shows a short path to the ball high finish, bat speed, and some barrel strength. In the game, the right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a walk.

Brody Rexroad, C, Mustang, 2021
A 5-foot-11, 200-pounds frame with a thick lower half and some strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows a short path with hands strength and bat speed, hitting from his front foot. In the game, Rexroad went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 R, including a home run to left.

Game 4

BBA Titans 17U vs Swat 17U: 4-3

Payton Messenger, C, Broken Arrow, 2020
A 5-foot-9, 165-pound very lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Behind the dish is where Messenger really stands out as an advanced receiver, blocker, and shows off some are strength with excellent accuracy. Threw out two runners at second and one at third in the game and kept balls in the dirt in front. At the dish the right-handed hitter shows good rhythm at the dish with quickness in his hands and the ability to consistently find barrel, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored


Zach McCombs, RHP, Owasso, 2019

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame. The NOC Tonkawa commit tossed four strong innings after settling in. McCombs uses and average tempo delivery and an over the top slot that creates some tilt. Fastball ranged 80-83 early on with some down-hill tilt. Curveball shows near 12/6 shape at 71-72 mph.


Swat

Nathan Thompson, LHP, Elk Grove (CA), 2020

A very lean 6-foot-2, 150-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. The left-hander didn’t shows high end velo, but worked from a repeatable delivery with a long, loose, and easy arm action coming through a  ¾ slot and showed command of both sides of the dish with the fastball. Curveball rolls at 61-63. Thompson induced two double plays and punched out two in 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and not free bases.


Game 5
Sandlot Tulsa Bagley 15U vs Sandlot OKC Orth 16U: 10-6

Hunter Lenochan,SS, Edmond Memorial, 2021
A lean 6-foot-165-pound frame with room to add strength. Offensively, the right hand hitter uses a moderate and quick leg kick before dropping his hands and pulling them through a flat path through extension with barrel to ball skills. In the game, Lenochan went 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs


Bagley

Payton Roberson, C, Duncan, 2022

A physically advanced 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, the left-handed hitter shows a simple, balanced, and controlled load, and leg kick before launching his hands on an efficient path to contact with advanced bat speed and strength. In the game, went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Defensively, shows flexibility for a big frame and receives with strong hands.
