PBR Ontario Spotlight Game: Ottawa Chiefs vs Hamilton Cardinals

Toronto – The 18U Ottawa Chiefs and the 18U Hamilton Cardinals played on a beautiful Friday night at Keelesdale Field in Toronto. The Chiefs edged out the Cardinals 4-1 thanks to a terrific job by starting pitcher Jordan Kazen.

The big right-hander struck out eight Cardinals en-route to a complete game, two-hitter. He stymied hitters with his hard fastball and had the Cardinals offence dormant, only allowing weak contact. Kazen allowed his first hit in the first inning of the game and his second and third both in the 7th and final inning.

Hamilton came to life in the bottom of the 7th inning as they led off with back to back singles and a hit batter but could only score 1 as Kazen would bear down and strike out the last hitter off the game to grab his team the win.

The Chiefs scored in the first, third and fifth innings. In the first, Ottawa scored on an errant throw by the pitcher that scored the runner from second. In the third, they had two hits and two runs while in the fifth they had a run on one hit.

Hamilton’s starting pitcher Cooper Blanchette threw 71 pitches in 4.1 innings and struck out four. He was unlucky as his bad throw cost him a run and gave Ottawa an early lead in the 1st inning. Lefty Matt Macdowell relieved him and gave up a run in his three innings of work with four strikeouts.
