PBR Spotlight Game: #23 Brecksville-Broadview Heights vs Medina

BBHS scored a hard fought 4-3 victory over Medina in a very competitive high school tournament game Wednesday at Brecksville.

BBHS got it rolling in the bottom of the first with a lead-off double by senior CF Kyle Stringer, followed by an infield hit by unsigned senior DH Jackson Gilbride. Senior LF Taylor Cave (Baldwin-Wallace commit) then got a big two out single to right to make it 2-0.

Medina came right back when junior CF Jordan Fultz singled; advanced to second on a balk, then scored on a two out single by right-fielder Lucas Goehler.

Stringer and Gilbride scored again in the bottom of the second inning, starting a two-out rally with a walk and a single. Senior RHP Dan Cody then walked to load the bases. Medina starting pitcher Austin Havekost (Kent State commit) then unleashed a wild pitch which allowed Fultz to score from third; Gilbride scored on the same play as an errant throw allowed him to advance to the plate.

Medina returned fire as junior shortstop Colin Winters doubled down the left field line, followed by a bunt single by DH Travis Auth. An infield error allowed Winters to score from third, followed by another bunt single, this time by 3B Collin Minor to load the bases with no outs.

Fultz then lifted what looked like a sacrifice fly to right but a perfectly executed relay from junior RF Ryan Maitland thru junior 1B Dan Harwood got the runner at the plate. 1B Parker Fronk then scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-3.

The game settled down as committed senior pitcher Havekost (Kent State) and Cody (Baldwin-Wallace) took over the game. Both pitchers were in control the rest of the way as Havekost allowed only three more base runners and Cody two.

#4 seed advances to play #1 seed Wadsworth Tuesday at Hudson. Medina finishes the season at 17-11.
