CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS, OHIO – The No. 11 ranked Cuyahoga Heights HS baseball team faced off against Beachwood HS in a Chagrin Valley conference matchup.

The game was dominated by two left-handed pitchers, junior LHP Zac Lowther of Cuyahoga Heights HS and senior LHP Todd Goldberg of Beachwood HS, who combined for 19 total strikeouts on the day.

Ultimately, three Cuyahoga Heights errors, a misjudged fly ball to the outfield, and three infield singles that aided Beachwood’s victory.

Lowther (1-1) threw well enough to deserve the win, but it just wasn’t meant to be. The southpaw threw a complete game, striking out 11 Beachwood hitters, while only giving up five hits and walking four.

After an error and a walk to lead off the first inning, Beachwood struck first by scoring two runs off a misplayed ball the centerfielder that resulted in a double from Goldberg.

Beachwood scored an additional two runs in the fifth inning coming off an infield error, a walk, and a single to left field notching the score at 4-0 in the visiting team’s favor.

Beachwood senior LHP Todd Goldberg (3-0) was equally impressive going the distance while striking out eight batters, giving up only two hits, and walking two. The defining moment in the game may have been in the fourth inning. After surrendering a lead off double, Goldberg picked off the runner to eliminate the Cuyahoga Heights comeback attempt.

Beachwood HS improved their overall record to 6-1 while Cuyahoga Heights HS drops its record to 2-3 on the season.
