PBR Spotlight Game: Cheshire vs Daniel Hand

MADISON - Cheshire High baseball team traveled to Daniel Hand of Madison on Monday. This was a must win for both teams, Cheshire needing to win the last three to qualify for the SCC tournament and Daniel Hand one more victory to clinch a spot in this year’s state tournament.

Daniel Hand came away with the walk-off win, 8-7.

Daniel Hand got on the board right away in the bottom of the first.

Bobby Lanza lined a single back up the middle, after a stolen base, he scored on Dan Romanello’s two out single.

Daniel Hand would get another run in the bottom of the 2nd and tacked on two more in the 3rd on Ray Miklos monster opposite field home run.

Miklos a right-handed hitter showed raw power to both gaps, swing is level through the zone, with a high finish. Runs well for a big kid and has showed the ability to handle the hot corner. Miklos will be someone to watch in the next few months.

Daniel Hand and freshman RHP Kyle Schaefer were in complete control until the 6th, when Cheshire erupted for 6 runs.

Ben Delaubell got on by an error, which was followed by a walk and hit by pitch. Nick Sansone came through with 2-run double down the right field line. Another walk and double by Altrin Kabashi plated 2 more to tie the score at 4. Ryan Pierpont’s 2-run single gave the Rams the lead at 6-4.

Cheshire would add one more in the top of the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7th, with one out Andrew Murphy got things going with a single to center, with 2 outs and runners on first and 2nd, Romanello came through again with an RBI single, Drew Harmon followed with another single to load the bases. Curry bound Jack Kallinich finished things off with a bases loaded triple to center field to end the game.

Cheshire was led by Altrin Kabashi who had 2 singles and a double, while Pierpont and Sansone had 2 RBIs each.

Be on the lookout for freshman 3B/RHP Ben Delaubell, showed plus bat speed with good carry across the diamond from 3rd. A big body kid will be someone to watch off the bump as well.

Lanza, Romanello and Harmon each had 2 hits a piece for Daniel Hand.
