PBR Spotlight Game: East York Bulldogs vs Etobicoke Rangers

TORONTO – Two teams in the Midget Elite League (MEL) met for a doubleheader at Connorvale Park on Sunday in Toronto. The Etobicoke Rangers squared off against the East York Bulldogs, with the Rangers sweeping the double-header.

The Etobicoke Rangers took game one 6-2 behind strong performances by starting pitcher Ryan O’Halloran and shortstop Kyle Maves.

O’Halloran gave up two hits, two walks, two earned runs while striking out three on his way to picking up the win over four strong frames. He was locating his fastball well and had a good change up working today. He also helped himself at the plate, finishing the game 2-3 with a double and a RBI.

The 5-foot-7, 145-pound shortstop Maves had a strong showing at the plate. He finished the game 2-3 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI’s and a walk. Maves showed good bat speed and a compact swing.

East York’s lone two runs of the game were scored by their first two batters of the game in the top of the first inning. Their leadoff hitter, Trovgakas, reached base by way of a dropped third strike while second hitter, Gluyns, reached base with a walk. These were the only two players to cross the plate for East York in game one of the doubleheader.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Rangers’ bats broke out powering them to a 12-1 win and a doubleheader sweep. The Rangers’ were led by pitcher Nathan Zimmerman along with the bats of Sean Walmsley and Cameron Dyck.

On the mound, Zimmerman gave up three hits, no walks, one unearned run while striking out two over four excellent innings of work.

The Rangers’ centre fielder Walmsley had a day to remember at the plate.  Hitting third in the lineup, he finished the game going 3-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.  He showed good discipline at the plate. 

Leftfielder Cameron Dyck also had a strong showing at the plate in game two of the doubleheader.  He hit a triple to the right-centre gap to lead off the bottom of the second inning.  He would finish the game going 2-2 with a triple, a run scored and a walk.  Dyck is a versatile player on both sides of the ball.
