PBR Spotlight Game: HSE vs. Mt. Vernon



Hamilton Southeastern 9 – Mount Vernon 5

                Hamilton Southeaster and Mount Vernon pitchers faced a tough strike zone on Monday as both teams combined for 12 walks.  HSE made the best of these walks as the Royals scored nine times to top Mount Vernon.

                Zach Norman (2014) got the first run of the game in the top of the first for Mount Vernon with a solo home run to left off an 80mph fastball.  Mount Vernon added another run in the top of the second.  Derek Barnett walked and scored on a single by Norman making the score 2-0.

HSE answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs and never relinquished it back to the Marauders. Sean Green double to score Mitch Roman then Justin Striebel crossed home on a passed ball. Erik DeWael would bring Mileke Austin in with a sacrifice fly.  Tre Gantt and Roman scored in the third on a two out single by Green bringing the score to 5-2.

Barnett doubled and score on a passed ball in the fourth to bring the Marauders within two runs. But HSE took advantage of the tight strike zone in the fifth and sixth as they were walked five times and scored four times to take a 9-3 lead. HSE would allow two more runs but hold on to win 9-5.

Troy Montgomery (14th ranked 2013) looked pretty good on the mound on Monday. The 5’10 lefty, committed to Illinois, was 81-85 gave up three hits, and struck out three in three innings of work. Westin Edrington showed off his athleticism as he made a handful of good plays in the field and stole second and third in the sixth inning after being walked.
