PBR Spotlight Game: Hebron vs. Hobart

Hobart 9 Hebron 0

Hobart, IN – Sophomore right handed pitcher Brandon Murray was electric from the first pitch. Murray’s first pitch was 89 mph. He was consistently 88-89 through the first five innings and topped out at 90. In the 7th inning Murray was still sitting 85-87.  He showed a curveball that can be effective when it is in the zone at 76 mph. He dominated the Hebron batters all night throwing a complete game striking out 15, allowing just two hits, and walking two batters.

It took the offense for Hobart to a few innings to wake up, but it showed it could be as effective as Murray’s fastball. They got on the board in the 3rd when Travis Waddell walked and later scored on a wild pitch. In the fourth with one out Nick Bokun stepped up a drove a ball deep over the left field wall to put Hobart up 2-0. Hobart would add another run in the fourth when Anthony Burgos singled to score Drey Devereaux.

In the sixth inning Hobart’s offense pounded out six runs to put the game away. After getting two outs to start the inning Bokun was hit by a pitch and Phil Madvek followed that up with a RBI double in the left field gap. After back to back walks pinch hitter Guy Birchel stepped up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double that scored all three base runners. Chris Moore singled in Birchel for another run, and Tyrus Joseforsky doubled in Moore putting Hobart ahead 9-0.

Hebron’s starting pitcher Kyle Joyce was effective for most of the game. Throughout the first three innings the junior sat 78-82 topping out at 83. He also showed a good 12/6 curveball that sat in the low 70s.
