AVON LAKE, OHIO - Midpark HS travelled to within a stones throw of the shores of Lake Erie to gain a 6-3 victory over Avon Lake HS in an important Southwestern Conference battle.

Both teams looking to get a good start in the tough SWC.

The first four innings featured zeros across the score board. While each team managed to load the bases early, the starting pitchers found a way to get out of scoring opportunities.

Midpark RHP Joey Krucke recorded a big strike out to end a bases loaded threat by Avon Lake in the third inning. Meanwhile, Avon Lake’s Kyle Beck got a fly out to left field to end Midpark’s bases loaded threat in the fourth inning.

The Meteors finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning using three hits and two walks to plate four runs. Midpark added two more in the top of the sixth inning before Avon Lake got on the board with a two run blast by junior clean-up hitter Brad Hamilton.

Avon Lake threatened again off reliever Jaret Peterson, scoring a run, but a long fly by Hamilton to left was caught at the fence as two men were stranded on base.

Avon Lake was led offensively by Matt Morrisette and Hamilton, who had a home run and a walk in four at-bats as Midpark pitchers were very careful pitching to the junior catcher.

Midpark was led by offensively by Tanner Marken, Josh Crouch and Kyle Gibbons, in addition to the all-around outstanding play of third baseman Kyle Slovick.  Slovick not only went four for four on the day, but also managed to take several hits away from the Avon Lake offense with stellar play at third base.
