PBR Spotlight Game: Newmarket Hawks 16u vs Tecumseh Thunder 16u

VAUGHAN- The Newmarket Hawks and Tecumseh Thunder were under the lights Friday night at Vaughan Grove Sports Park for the Minor Midget tournament. The Thunder came out on top with a 2-0 victory.

Thunder LHP Mitchell Prsa scattered five hits over six solid innings with eight strikeouts and not allowing a baserunner to reach second. He showed good command of his fastball to both sides of the plate with arm-side run and used his changeup to keep the Hawks hitters off-balance.

Hawks’ RHP Bryn Sanford pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits and striking out 10. He showed good arm action on his fastball hitting 81 mph and good tilt on his 11/5 shape curveball that sat in the high 60s.

The Thunder got on the board in the second inning after a one-out single up the middle by OF Carson Burke, stole second and was driven in by INF Brendan Soto on a base hit to right field for a 1-0 lead.

In the Thunder’s fifth, OF Matthew Gravelle lined a lead-off single down the third base line, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Soto and OF Liam Bergeron sent an RBI single to right to make it 2-0 and sealed the game for the Thunder.

Mitchell Prsa: Picked up the win, 6 innings, 0 runs, 5 hits, striking out 8.

Bryn Sanford: Complete game, 2 runs, 5 hits, striking out 10.

Brendan Soto: 1-for-1, single, RBI, sacrifice bunt.
