PBR Spotlight Game: No. 11 Toledo St. Johns vs. No. 10 St. Xavier

AVON- In game four of the Ohio Jesuit Cup the 10th ranked St. Xavier Bombers faced the 11th ranked St. John's Titans. The Titans jumped on the Bombers early en route to an 7-3 victory to up their record to 14-5 on the season, while the Bombers fell to 15-4.

After a quick top of the first, St. John's took advantage of the wildness of St. X starter senior Griffin Dollie. Junior Liam Allen led off the inning with a walk. Allen moved to 2nd on a steal and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. A walk to senior Dylan Willits put runners on the corner for University of Toledo recruit Nate Pearson. The senior drove the ball to left-center for a sacrifice fly to put the Titans up 1-0.

Willits stole 2nd and moved up to 3rd on a dropped third strike to senior Joe Robie. With runners on the corners, three more runs came home on an RBI single, a run-scoring groundout and a wild pitch.

With the Titans up 4-0, sophomore Jacek Czerwinski settled in to shut down the high-powered Bombers' offense through five innings.

In the top of the sixth, the Bombers finally got to Czerwinski. Senior Dominic Plageman had an RBI single to cut the Titans' lead to 4-1 and senior Donavan Pogue launched a two-run home run to left to put the score at 4-3.

St. John's answered in the bottom half of the frame. After the Bombers got the first two out, two Titans reached by walks. Junior Mike Eddingfield then singled to load the bases. Pinch hitter Devon Garcia, a freshman, stepped up with a three-run double to left to push the lead to 7-3.

Czerwinski closed the door in the final frame to earn the win. Czerwinski went the distance allowing three runs, none earned. Czerwinski allowed just six hits while striking out 7.
