Garfield Heights – In a game between two Division IV – North Coast League teams in Northeast Ohio, No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas and Trinity, the Knights came away victorious over the Trojans 11-4 in a cold contest.

It was a game with both teams combining for 19 hits and 15 runs.  St. Thomas Aquinas talented sophomore Robby Kostiuk (2016 – RHP) struggled with control in inning one, but settled in throwing five quality innings. 

Kostiuk allowed two runs on five hits, four walks while striking out five Trojans.  Kostiuk faced off against Trinity’s young southpaw Nick Farrell (2017 – 1B/LHP).  Farrell, in his first varsity start, battled for four and two-thirds innings.  He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, walking five while striking out five Knights. 

Despite the final score, the game was a close contest for four innings – with St. Thomas leading 4-2 before erupting for 7 runs in the fifth. 

Offensively, the Knights attack was led by Kostiuk and his battery mate Evan Vernier – (2015).  Kostiuk had three singles and scored two runs.  Vernier, a talented catcher batting out of the nine hole, had three singles and two RBI’s.  Anthony Moeglin (2015 - 3B) had a big day of his own scoring two runs and knocking in three of his own with two doubles. 

The Trojans offense was led by two seniors – Carl Basmagy (SS) and David Kozma (3B) as they each had two singles.

St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 6-1 on the season and travels to Timken on Friday.  Trinity will need to refocus as they fall to 0-2 on the season.  They return to action on Thursday as they travel to CVCA.
