PBR Spotlight Game: No. 25 Lakewood HS at No. 20 Midview HS

GRAFTON, OHIO - Lakewood brought a vastly improved team and a 12-1 record to Lorain County as they squared off against Midview and the state’s top left-handed pitcher, Eric Lauer.

With beautiful weather and over 30 Major League scouts in attendance, the scene was set for tough conference matchup.

And, Lauer did not disappoint.

The Kent State recruit used a hard tailing fastball and a sharp slider to run through the Ranger line-up as he lead Midview to a 6-0 victory.

Facing only two hitters over the minimum batters, the 6-foot-4, 175-pound lean lefty threw a no hitter, struck out twelve and found himself two hit batters away from a perfect game. To top it off, Lauer added to his big day in the first inning by driving in the first Midview run with a hard double in the left center gap.

Midview played a sound all-around game offensively and defensively.  Playing errorless ball, the defense was led by junior shortstop Cody Calloway, senior centerfielder Austin Steindl, and unsigned senior catcher Steven Frye.

Offensively, Calloway and Frye each collected two hits a piece, leading a line-up in which eight players either scored or got a hit.

Lakewood junior Jameson Foran pitched well enough to keep his team close through four innings, and senior shortstop Eric Roder made several nice plays in tight situations.
