LEXINGTON, OHIO - The Lexington Minutemen came into tonight’s Ohio Cardinal Conference matchup against Mansfield Madison, having won 12 games in a row and perfect in the OCC. After a quick start to their season, Madison had dropped the past three games.

But, when rivals meet up, you can throw records out the door.

Lexington sent junior RHP Zach Temple (4-0) to the mound to face Madison junior LHP Blake Lampert (1-2).

Lexington jumped on the Madison left hander in the bottom of the 1st. Heidelberg recruit, Mason Willeke lead off the bottom of the frame with a shot to the left field fence for a double. Brody Basilone delivered an infield hit to second base that scored Willeke and put Lexington up 1-0.

The game stayed at 1-0 until the fourth inning when Madison juniors, Kyle Blust and Alec Gowitzka lined back to back singles to start the inning. Blust later scored on sophomore Kyle Galco’s ground out to short, which tied the game at 1-1.

Lexington wasted little time in the bottom of the 4th. Bluffton recruit James Watkins lead off with a single and was sacrificed over by junior Alex Gerrell. Willeke followed with his second double of the game to put Lexington up 2-1. Oakland recruit Zach Sterry then doubled to center to drive in Willeke. Basilone hit a towering fly ball to the track in left field but the ball pooped out of the glove for a two-base error as Sterry scored on the play. Capital  University recruit, Logan Bastin, hit a line drive up the middle to score Basilone and put Lexington up for good 5-1.

Lexington added three more runs in the fifth inning as sophomore Evan Lee lead off with a single. Temple reached on an error, and  Gerrell and junior Nate Arnholt delivered back to back RBI singles. Later, Willeke grounded out but Gerrell scored on the play to put the Minutemen up 8-1.

In the sixth inning, Lexington added an additional run as Basilone walked, Bastin singled and Lee delivered an RBI ground out to score Basilone, making the score 9-1.

Madison threatened in the seventh inning as they plated two runs on three singles by Fix, Curvin, and Brown. The game ended in a 9-3 Lexington victory.

Lexington won for the 13th time in a row as Temple (5-0) was in control the entire game. He gave up three runs, while scattering eight hits, struck out eight, and hit one batter.
