PBR Spotlight Game: Portage North vs #13 Taylor Kennedy

#13 Taylor Kennedy took on Portage Northern in a quarter final matchup played at the University of Michigan. Taylor Kennedy is led by 2015 Eastern Michigan commit Tyler Butzin. Portage Northern has several college commits including Ben Keizer (2015 University of Michigan), Tommy Henry (2016 University of Michigan), Blake Therrian (2015 Florence- Darlington Tech CC) and Max Schuemann (Eastern Michigan University).

This quarter final was all about Henry who dominated the potent Kennedy offense. Henry opened the game retiring the first 7 hitters before allowing a hit. Displaying a high leg kick, loose arm and 3-pitch repertoire he displayed why he is arguably the top arm in the state.

In the bottom of the 1st Henry reached on a free pass, 2017 Brady Young slugged a single through the 5-6 hole and 2018 Noah Hecht hit an RBI single scoring Henry.

Hecht opened the bottom of the 4th with a line drive single to centerfield, unsigned senior Brett Penny crushed a triple to left centerfield scoring Hecht.

Northern added 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. 2017 Jacob Begeman reached base on an infield error, Schuemann put down a beautiful push bunt where no defenders were setting the table for Henry. Henry singled to center scoring Begeman sparking a pitching change. Young was hit by a pitch loading the bases, Hecht scored Schuemann, and Penny’s RBI single scored Henry.

Henry threw a complete game, shutout with 7 strikeouts leading Northern to a semi-final game played June 11, 2015 at Michigan State University.
