PBR Spotlight Game: Westlake vs Lorain

Westlake erupted for seven runs in the top of the 7th inning to break a 3-3 tie and advance in the Lorain District Sectional over host Lorain.

Westlake jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by junior right-fielder Tristan Grimes and a two-out RBI single by junior 1st baseman Maxx Lackner.

Lorain responded in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases with the first three batters to bring up clean-up hitter sophomore pitcher Xavier Moore.

Moore hit a hard line drive up the middle that sophomore shortstop Ethan Kosco snared moving to his left; stepped on second then threw to first for a triple play that ended what looked to be a big inning for Lorain.

Lorain battled back to tie the game on RBI doubles by junior center-fielder Brandon Bartlome and Moore.

Each team scored one in their half of the fifth to keep the score tied at 3-3.

Westlake senior Scott Leonard and Lorain’s Moore both battled on the mound into the seventh inning.

Grimes, senior left-fielder Ryan Nebraska and Lackner knocked Moore out of the game to start the 7th inning with three consecutive hits.

Westlake continued the pressure getting three more hits, a walk and two Lorain errors.

Grimes finished the inning with a deep triple to right center that was eventually ruled a single as he missed second base, heading to third.

Leonard continued throwing strikes to get Lorain out in the seventh and get the big win for Westlake.

Westlake advances today to play Amherst Steele at 4:30 p.m. while Lorain finishes a fine season at 16-8.
