BAY VILLAGE, OH - Bay High rallies in the middle innings of their matchup against Westlake to score just enough to beat their rival 5-4.

Westlake was able to jump out to an early lead scoring two runs.  It started with senior right fielder Mike Fikter who walked and stole second.  He moved to third on a single by senior center fielder Dillon Crocker.  Fikter then scored on a wild pitch committed by Bay junior starter, Rex Sunahara.   Giving them the 2-0 lead was senior catcher Kent Axcell, who smoked a double to left center plating Crocker.

Bay responded in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Kevin Keefe singled and scored on a single by junior first baseman Chris Francati. Shortly after, senior Will Wilson walked, and junior third baseman Griffin Watterson (pictured right) lined a two RBI double giving Bay Village a 3-2 lead going into the 4th.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bay was able to add a couple insurance runs. Both Matt Tashjian and Andrew Taylor walked to start the inning, and both came around to score due to errors made by the Westlake defense pushing Bay’s lead to 5-2.

The score stayed locked at 5-2 until the top of the seventh when Fikter led off the inning with a double and Crocker followed with a walk.  The combination of an error, walk, and passed ball eventually scored both Fikter and Crocker, leaving Westlake with the bases loaded and two outs.

Bay’s Griffin Watterson was able to capture the last out of the inning recording the save, and preserving the win for the Rockets.
