Scouting Report

7/01/21

2021 MLB DraftAthletic and loose-armed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Povich is likely to throw significantly harder down the road. His fastball currently sits 89-92, but with good arm speed, an easy delivery and moderate effort, he stands to gain at least a grade to his fastball. There is more angle than natural life to his fastball, but it shows occasional tail. He typically features a low-80s changeup as his top offspeed offering, but also has a pair of breaking balls. He mixes in a 73-76 curveball and 78-81 slider with the slider projecting better. He also showed an 81-85 cutter while pitching in the Coastal Plain League last summer.

5/22/21

The Husker ace took the mound on Friday night, grinding through four innings without his best stuff. Loose-armed and athletic, Povich stands 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and is likely to throw significantly harder down the road. He sat 89-92 on this look, but with good arm speed and an easy delivery with moderate effort he should improve at least one grade (45 FB to 55 on the pro scale) and 3-5 mph on the top end. There was more angle than natural life to his heater, although it did show occasional tail to his armside and spun in the 2100-2225 range. He typically features a low-80s changeup as his top offspeed offering, but on this night he opted for a pair of breaking pitches as his main secondary weapons. He mixed a 73-76 mph curveball and 78-81 slider. His slider projects better for me better than his curve in the future. Povich also showed a 81-85 mph cutter while pitching for the Savannah Bananas last summer in the Coastal Plain league, but that pitch was not seen during this outing. Down the road he will be better off sticking to just one instead of mixing and morphing. As a high performing college lefty (5-1, 3.12 ERA, 66.1 IP, 18 BB, 70 SO) who has a loose arm and good upside, Povich projects to be selected around the 4th round.

5/21/17

5/21/17- 6-foot-1, 150 pound left handed pitcher.Tall slender build, has room in frame for another 30-40 pound in the future. Arm is loose and easy, hand is short on the backside and long out front from a mid ¾ arm slot. Heavy strike thrower to both sides of the plate, fastball runs to his arm side. 64-66 mph breaking ball has tight spin across two planes. Solid 69-71 mph changeup with identical arm speed as fastball.

8/14/16- 5-foot-10, 135-pound left-handed pitcher topped out at 73 mph with his running fastball. Skinny wiry frame with room for growth. Quick tempo high pitchability stuff. Low ¾ arm action, front side stays closed and finishes online to home plate. Hand comes out clean from backside. Showed above average command of both 64-66 mph changeup with sink and 64-66 mph breaking ball. Struck out three in two innings of work during game play.
