By Cory Valentine

Today, we break down Part II of our interview with current Detroit Tigers prospect Jason King, who shares his experience as a college recruit, MLB prospect, and current minor leaguer. To read Part I of the interview, click here.

In 2007, King earned Division I players of the year honors for the state of Ohio as a senior. King was drafted in the 4th round out of Kansas State this past spring, and is currently down in Lakeland, Florida, rehabbing his knee in preparation for Spring Training.

Throughout his baseball career, Jason has battled through several obstacles on his road to becoming a professional baseball player.

King Hitting

PBR: Besides the pitching, was the biggest difference between high school/travel and playing division 1 college baseball?

King: “The time commitment. If you want to play division one baseball, it is more than the equivalent of a full time job. 40+ hours a week. All the sudden you have mandatory lifting, conditioning, meetings, events, practices etc. Also being able to balance that with class.”

PBR: What was your greatest memory playing at Kstate?

King: “Playing with my brother by far is my greatest memory. Individually, hitting my 10th home run of the year my junior year against our rival Kansas.”

PBR: What was it like playing BigXII baseball with your brother?

King: “It was an amazing feeling. I am just honored that he made it happen by choosing Kansas State. It is something that we will remember and tell stories about forever. I will always remember giving him a bear hug after we both homered in the same game vs. Texas A&M.”

King brothersPBR: At Kansas State, was nutrition stressed and enforced? If so how so and what programs/diets do you like to follow?

King: “Stressed but not enforced. I was always on the no calorie left behind diet due to the insane amount of activity.”

PBR: Do you feel you were at an advantage going to Kansas State compared to staying home and attending a big10 or mac school?

King: “I was at an advantage when it came time to getting drafted. If you look at the total number of players drafted out of the BIGXII and the number of players picked in the top 10 rounds, it doesn't even compare. Since making it to the big leagues is my goal, I had to put myself in the best position to do so.”

PBR: Who was the most difficult pitcher to face that you have gone up against in your career so far? Who was the most impressive player you’ve played with or played against?

King: “The most impressive arm is Taylor Jungmann from Texas, who was a first round pick in 2011. The most impressive position player is Jason Kipnis from Arizona State, who is the Indians' starting second baseman. “
