Pendleton Heights Takes Down New Castle

Mother Nature made for a slick playing surface Wednesday between host Pendleton Heights and New Castle, and the eight errors spread between the two clubs played a part in the evening's matchup.

The Arabians opened the scoring on a Hunter Cook sac fly to center in the bottom of the first. Parker Aul came around to score on a wild pitch putting Pendleton up two early. New Castle shortstop Connor King evened the score at two with a double in the third that plated two runs.

In the bottom of the fourth Pendleton Heights catcher and Danville Community College commit Trevor Jennings hit a single that drove home two runs plus an additional run on a throwing error. With a 6-3 lead, the Arabians never looked back.

For New Castle, Sophomore Grant Mallot inside-outed a ball to right for a double and two runs in the top of the sixth closing the gap to four. Austin Cook followed with an RBI single making it 9-6 late in the game. Six errors for New Castle proved too much to overcome however, and Pendleton came away with the win on a soggy evening.

Senior Skylar Reis got the win on an evening where he was making just his third appearance on the mound. He featured a fastball that sat 86-87 and a sharp breaking ball at 70 that kept hitters off balance most of the evening.
