Player Spotlight: 2019 RHP Tom Westers (Bishop Ludden HS)

President, New York

Our "Player Spotlights" will be reserved for any prospect across New York who's abilities on the field have made some noteworthy recent buzz. Possibly a recent event where a Top Performer Spotlight article is just not enough, or maybe a recent commitment to a major program. Whatever it is, I'll (Dan Cevette) be going in-depth on the player spotlighted below with personal insight and honest feedback. Let's get started.

Tom Westers RHP / RHP / Bishop Ludden, NY / 2019

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Sound mechanics, ideal pitchers frame, and already a current feel for spinning the baseball. Fastball has a chance to get better, currently 79-81 mph but with some focus on faster hand-speed and building up his deceleration, look for Westers to reach the Mid-80's this summer.

SCOUTING REPORT: Athletic lean build standing 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Tom is a RHP in the graduating class of 2019. Pitching- From the windup he starts on the first base side of the mound. Coming up to his balance point with pace, uses a leg tuck to the waist tilting his body weight on to the back leg prior to pitch. Arm slot is over the top. The finish is straight to the plate planting that front foot directly to the catcher. FB sat 79-81 MPH with arm-side run, signs of more velocity to come. Changeup has late action, fade, sitting 70-72. Curveball had consistent rotation to it with late break. CB sat 67-68.
