Player Spotlights: MLB Draft Prospects

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The Major League Baseball draft is June 12th -14th. Yesterday we highlighted 2017 MIF Casey Martins profile. Martin is the highest draft prospect today we look at the other players who have a chance to have their name called during the draft.

Mathew Goodheart 2B / 3B / Magnolia, AR / 2017

Goodheart; is an advanced left-handed hitter with above average athleticism. He is committed to San Jacinto College. He has drawn interest from a few MLB organizations and seems to be open to signing out of high school.

Paxton Wallace 3B / RHP / Greenbrier, AR / 2017

A physically strong player; which has continued to develop and show advanced skills. His last outing on the mound Wallace worked up to 94 mph. He put on a show during BP of the All-State Game, driving balls out of the yard. Signability will be an issue as the Wichita State commit, seems firm on going to school and continuing to play as a two way player.

Austin Kelly RHP / Robinson, AR / 2017

Kelly is a right-hander with power advanced arm strength and a solid slider. His fastball works up to 92 mph and the slider is a swing and miss pitch thrown 78-81 mph. The Arkansas commit, looks to be signable, he has received phone calls from a few clubs, if he gets a call expect it to be day three of the draft.
