Saturday saw the completion of the private school playoffs in Virginia as the VISAA hosted their Championship tripleheader at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights. An exciting day of baseball saw three champions crowned.

Southampton Academy won the Division III Championship and finished the season 23-1 overall. The Raiders ride that finish to their first appearance in the Prep Baseball Report VA/DC rankings this week.

Also capturing a title on Saturday was Greenbrier Christian, which rode its deep lineup and roster with only one senior to a win over Miller School and the Division II crown. The Gators land in the Top 5 for the first time this week, and will be a strong contender for Preseason No. 1 in 2016.

The final champion crowned on Saturday was the Liberty Christian Bulldogs, which defeated No. 17 Collegiate School to defend their VISAA Division I title and finish the season undefeated against Virginia opponents and 22-1-1 overall. The Bulldogs will be hurt by the graduation of Derek Horton, but will still be a dangerous team next spring with ace Zachary Hess and a deep lineup returning. Liberty Christian remains No. 1 in the PBR VA/DC Power 25.

Hickory and Western Branch remain in the Top 5 after perfect weeks and they are joined by No. 4 Glen Allen, which posted wins over No. 22 Lee-Davis, No. 9 Hanover, and Midlothian last week.

Douglas Freeman continued its dominance of conference play and moved back into the Top 10. Colonial Heights remains undefeated on the spring and is now up to No. 11 in the rankings.

No. 12 James River (Midlothian) had the biggest fall of the week, getting upset by rival Midlothian. Other teams that slid but remained in the rankings were No. 22 Lee-Davis, which lost to No. 9 Hanover and No. 4 Glen Allen, and No. 20 Benedictine, which was upset in the first round of the playoffs by St. Anne’s-Belfield.

Re-entering the rankings this week is No. 23 Battlefield, which split a pair of extra-inning games with No. 18 Patriot last week. Falling out of the rankings are Cosby and Oakton as the 6A North continues to beat itself up and the Titans had a rough day against Thomas Dale.

The staff of Prep Baseball Report VA/DC determines the Power 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games on May 17.
