The spring season is beginning to wind to a close in Virginia and DC as public schools around the state enter the second half of conference play and the private school season regular season comes to a close. With the smell of summer finally in the air, the spectre of playoff baseball is growing quickly in the windshield as private school conference tournaments take place throughout our coverage area this week.

The top of this week’s rankings are almost identical to what they were last week, as 14 of last week’s Top 15 schools had undefeated weeks. Liberty Christian remains No. 1 for the sixth week in a row, followed closely by No. 2 Miller School. No. 4 James River (Midlothian) remained undefeated as they won a pair of one-run games over Cosby and Manchester.

No. 14 Loudoun Valley was the lone school in the Top 15 to lose last week as their undefeated season came to an end with a one-run loss to Liberty (Bealeton). No. 8 Millbrook remained undefeated with a dominant win over Briar Woods in the Pioneer’s sole game this week.

While the top of the rankings remained relatively unchanged, a bevy of upsets have led to a lot of movement in the bottom portion of last week’s Top 25. James Madison lost a tight game to Stone Bridge and falls to No. 23. No. 24 Jamestown lost its only game of the week to Smithfield and No. 25 Steward fell to Collegiate.

No. 25 Bishop O’Connell salvaged a tough first half of the week with a win over Paul VI on Saturday, which propelled the Knights into a WCAC semi-final series with No. 7 St. John’s starting on Monday.

Western Albemarle dropped out of the rankings after a loss to Louisa County. Moving into this week’s rankings is No. 21 Collegiate with wins over No. 25 Steward and Fork Union. Also new to this week’s rankings is No. 24 Patriot at 11-3 Overall.

The staff of Prep Baseball Report VA/DC determines the Power 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games on May 3.
