Opening Day is around the corner, try outs have been held, and rosters are soon to be set. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced that opening day of the 2022 season will commence on Wednesday, February 23rd. The PBR Arizona staff begins its 2022 season coverage starting with our preseason team previews, where we will take notes from coaches, and highlight returning players, newcomers, and some sleepers. Over the next couple weeks and leading up to opening day, we will be highlighting some of the top programs in state in our team previews. PBR will also be publishing its state Power 25 rankings that will be updated every Monday once the season begins. Throughout the season, PBR will be pumping out coverage, highlighting individual players, games, rankings, scouting reports and nominating a player of the week. PBR looks forward to getting out there this spring to see some great baseball.

Today, we look into:

Team: Saguaro High School (4A, Desert Sky)
2021 Record: 8-8
Head Coach: Joe Muecke
Returning Starters: 5
Returning Pitchers: 4

OUTLOOK

As we gather info from coaching staffs, and come to a conclusion with our Preseason Power 25 Rankings, we expect Coach Joe Muecke's team to be an exciting and talented group to watch. Coach Muecke believes this team has the right mix of talent and experience, with production coming from many different areas. Saguaro lost a great vocal leader at SS in Ty Nelson (PVCC), but expect those shoes to be filled by senior leader/multi-sport athlete 2022 SS Thomas DeChesaro. DeChesaro is a hard nosed athlete that will be at the top of the order, and get some quality innings on the mound. 2023 C/3B Tanner Nelson is another strong spot to this Saguaro roster, as he will hit in the middle of the order and carry a large role in driving in a majority of Saguaro's runs. The Saber-cats also had some key pickups in newcomers: 2022 RHP Collin Riff, and 2025 LHP/OF Cameron Caminiti. Saguaro picked up Riff as a transfer this year, as he will be suiting up in a Saber-cats uni for this first time this spring. We've seen much upside come from Riff through the last couple years, with his long frame and quick arm, this could be a guy that takes Saguaro to the next level if he can command the zone. And 2025 LHP/OF Cameron Caminiti (LSU) will be a definite bright spot for this team this spring. Caminiti announced his commitment to LSU before his first varsity season, as he has shown special talent as a two-way prospect. His live left handed arm has him up over 90 mph with the FB already, and his smooth left handed swing will have him towards the top of the Saber-cat lineup. Saguaro has the talent to win a 4A title this spring, and the youth to be a contender for years to come.
