Preseason Team Preview: Dumont

Head Coach: Jason Cannici (10th season with Dumont)

2015 Record: 15-12, #25 in North Jersey County (via The Record)

The Dumont Huskies and Coach Jason Cannici will be looking to improve on their 15-12 2015 campaign. This season looks very promising, and the Huskies will be in good shape as long as they can stay healthy, especially in their pitching rotation. The staff will be led by senior Colin Sonzogni and junior Daniel Raglievich. Look for Nick Colintino to provide some quality outings for the Husky staff as well. Coach Cannici says that the arms that he has at the top and in the bullpen can keep them in contention for the league title, and should keep them in good shape come late April and early May, when seeding for the Bergen County Tournament and North 1 Group 2 State Tournament comes around.

Look for the Huskies to lead with their pitching but do not sleep on their hitting. Top offensive threats for the Huskies will be seniors C Eric Breun, INF Justin Torres, and INF K.J. Mortoral. Torres has the potential to be the top hitter in the conference, and has All-League and All-County talent. Look for Dumont to turn some heads this Spring. They need to gain momentum going into big matchups with Ramsey, Mahwah, and Riverdell - all three of which will be big time public school contenders in the county. If the Huskies can get a couple W’s against foes like these, expect it to be a snowball effect going into the postseason.

** Keep an eye on junior RHP Daniel Raglievich. The 6-foot-3 hurler was clocked at 86 MPH this summer and has gotten tons of interest from colleges, even though he has not committed yet.

 

Coach's Bio:

+ Jason Cannici played baseball at Paramus Catholic High School before receiving a college scholarship to play at Manhattan College

+ He began his varsity coaching career at Bogota High School, and received the BCSL Olympic Coach of the Year Award in 2001 and 2002.

+ Cannici has led the Huskies to 7 league titles in 9 years.

+ Cannici has been named Coach of the Year 6+ times during his tenure at Dumont.

+ He is a professional hitting and pitching instructor at RBI Sports in Valley Cottage, NY.

+ He is also 1 win away from 200 career wins.
