Progress Report: Dillon Orr

PBR has had the chance to dig through the players and numbers from the past year, we have had a chance to see some players make some significant jumps recently. Today, we will be taking a look at a "Progress Report" feature that highlights players that have shown significant improvement in their game; whether it's on the mechanical end, performance wise, physicality or in the measurable statistic department. The "Progress Report" can be a minor improvement in recent months or a substantial transformation over time. Today we will be taking a look at '22 RHP Dillon Orr (Shadow Ridge).
Dillon Orr last attended a PBR event back at the end of last summer as a member of Team Arizona in the 2019 PBR Future Games. Playing up year in the event, he stood out with some natural arm strength with a power approach to pitching. He pounded the bottom of the zone with good plane at 83-86mph, topping out at 88mph. He lacked a bit of consistency at times but you really couldn't tell he was just a 2022 graduate. He also showed two solid off-speed pitches at the event that complemented his FB well with a change-up at 74mph and curve-ball at 66-69mph.
Today, At 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Orr has made some improvements to his frame and looks noticeably leaner than he did last summer. We have recently seen Orr continuing where he left off at the Future Games, pounding the zone. He has made some jumps velocity wise, sitting in the upper 80's and working his FB up to 91mph. His secondary pitches are continuing to develop with more shape & thrown with similar arm speed, more than complementing his FB. His consistency overall has improved and is starting to look more like a complete pitcher with more pitch ability. Orr is currently uncommitted and should continue to be a player with plenty of eyes on him once we are able to get back on the diamond.

Scouting Report
6'3" 188 lbs. Big frame - room to add considerable strength. Relatively easy delivery with a clean, fast arm that produced a bunch of downhill strikes with the FB that sat 84-86 with some riding life through the zone. Also flashed a solid 68-71 CB that shows the mamings of being a nice complement to the up and down plan the fastball allows for. The separator is a CH at 72-73 that features excellent arm speed and has real depth - tumbling action. The CH projects as a future plus pitch. He has a tendecncy to get forward which forces him off balance at his finish too often, and has an inconsistent lead arm path, but that's about all that's not to like here. The body, arm speed, direction, and present quality of pitches makes this one a high follow and likely a premium prospect in a couple of years.
6’3 188-pounds, with projectability for strong frame throughout. Mechanically sound delivery and arm action. Stays over the rubber well, allowing for arm to stay on time and use lower have efficiently. Strides in line with good use of working into front leg, forcing himself up and over to finish. Showed feel for three pitches. Fastball jumps out of hand at 83-84 MPH and is aggressively in the zone. Breaking ball at 70-72 MPH, with ability for strikes and for chase. Could benefit from adding slider to maintain aggressiveness in the pitch, rather than working to get on top of the baseball. Change shows fade with good arm speed at 68 MPH. Orr could find himself touching 90 before he knows it.
