Chace Culver, RHP, Wapakoneta HS, Class of 2014Chace Culver

PBR: Why did you choose Northern Kentucky University?

Culver: I chose NKU for many reasons but mainly because they had my major, the coaches are great, and I just had that at-home feeling.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Culver: I was also considering Wright State and Eastern Kentucky.

PBR: Where did Coach Asalon first see you?

Culver: Coach first saw me at a pitcher-catcher showcase at Swobat in Dayton late this fall.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?

Culver: I play for the Ohio Elite and my most memorable moment was probably just getting the opportunity to play on Kentucky and Vanderbilt's fields.

PBR: NKU plays at a beautiful facility in Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field Field, as it was renovated in 2013.  How much of a role did the field play in your decision? Also the distance to NKU, how did that play into your decision?

Culver: The field is definitely a major bonus. I'm not going to say that it was the decision-maker but it definitely helped.

The distance to NKU, how did that play into your decision?

Culver: Distance was huge for me, because my family being able to come watch is a big deal for me. I love the Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area and my older brother lives in Cincinnati so it definitely was a key part in my decision.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Culver:  I definitely didn't expect the recruiting process to be what it turned out to be. You always expect it to be just like the major football and basketball recruits but that just isn't the reality of it. I expected it to be less stressful and much more enjoyable but it all worked out in the end and I couldn't be happier.

PBR: Did you always have a dream of playing Division I college baseball?

Culver: I have always dreamed of playing college baseball. No matter the level or my age I have always wanted to play at the highest level against the highest competition so yeah it has definitely been a dream of mine.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Wapakoneta and summer season?

Culver: Last year I went 5-1 with 45.1 IP with an ERA of 0.93. I have no idea my stats from this summer.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Culver: I would say it is a tossup between Robert Zeigler and Anthony Kidston, both from Defiance High School.

PBR: Thoughts on the upcoming season? Thoughts on WBL? Thoughts on possible tournament run?

Culver: I am looking forward to this season. I think we are being overlooked and that we have a lot of young talent coming up that will surprise some people. The WBL lost some key players from last year's senior class but I don't expect it to be any less strong then it usually is. It is a tough league to play in with a lot of talent. My sophomore year when we had the most success was when we were overlooked with a lot of young talent so I could definitely see us making a good run in the tournament. We have a lot of young hard-working talented guys.
