Q and A with UNOH commit Ryan Fuller (C/Glen Este)

Ryan Fuller recently committed to Coach Kory Hartmann and the UNOH program. Read more about his decision ...

PBR: Why did you choose Northwestern Ohio?
Fuller: I chose Northwestern Ohio because it felt like the right fit for me.  I went up for an overnight visit and liked the players.  I feel comfortable with the coaching staff and like the way they organize practice. The baseball facilities are outstanding and they have a good Sports Management academic program. The coaching staff is building a very good program and I want to be a part of that.

PBR: What other schools were you looking at?
Fuller: was also looking at Shawnee State and Vincennes University.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play?
Fuller: They first saw me play at their Fall showcase in October. The coaching staff kept in constant contact with me over the winter.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play throughout your first year?
Fuller: They expect me to come in and compete for playing time behind the plate immediately.

PBR: What do you think you can do immediately to help improve the team?
Fuller: I think I can come in and help solidify the catcher position and be a leader on the field when my number is called.

PBR: What would you consider your biggest strength as a player?
Fuller: My biggest strength is my defensive ability behind the plate.  I feel like I get our pitchers borderline strike calls because I receive the ball very well. I block the ball well and I love throwing runners out on the bases.  My arm strength allows me to do that often.   I feel like I am a clutch hitter too.  I love the opportunity to drive in runs.

PBR: Who had the biggest impact on your career as a baseball player?
Fuller: The person who has had the biggest impact is my Dad.  He played baseball in college and taught me good fundamentals since I was old enough to walk.  Anytime I want extra work in the cage, etc, he is always there to throw to me and help me get my work in.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable baseball moment?
Fuller: I am playing for the Cincinnati Spikes this summer.  I would have to say 2 baseball moments stick out in my mind. When I was a sophomore I threw out 3 runners attempting to steal 2nd base in the SAME inning. The 2nd one is getting a base hit to drive in the winning run in the 11th inning last spring against Elder to advance us to the District Finals.

PBR: Who are some of the best players in the area that you have competed against?
Fuller: Probably the toughest pitcher I have faced is Nick Jensen Clagg from Ohio Elite. I think the last time I faced him was when I was 15 or 16 but he was nasty back then.  I would say one of the top hitters is I have seen is my Cincinnati Spikes teammate Connor Ferguson.  He plays for one of our high school conference rivals and we can never seem to get him out.
