Q and A with Western Michigan Commit: Brett Sunde (Bishop Foley HS)

Brett Sunde, C, Bishop Foley, Class of 2012

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Sunde: Western Michigan University. Both of my sisters go there and both of my parents went there. They offered me an outstanding scholarship and I really like the coaching staff.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Sunde: Cincinnati, Maryland, Wake Forest, Auburn

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Sunde: It was a small factor.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Sunde: During our summer travel season. They invited me to the campus for a visit and the relationship grew the more they saw me play.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Sunde: To be a good defensive catcher that can throw out runners and contribute offensively in the middle of the order.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Sunde: My biggest strength is my defensive abilities of receiving and blocking, with arm strength to shut down opposing teams running games. This will help my team because a good defensive catcher will not give away bases, can get pitchers strikes, and give pitchers the confidence to throw any pitch at anytime. With a strong arm you can control many aspects of the game.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Sunde: South Oakland A’s Elite National Travel. Getting selected to participate in the East Coast Professional Showcase.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Sunde: To work hard and become the best player I can be and to repeat as state champions.
