Q&A with Heidelberg Commit: Cameron Charbonneau (Utica Eisenhower HS)

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

Cameron Charbonneau (Utica Eisenhower HS) recently made his commitment to Heidelberg University in Ohio.  He is your classic late bloomer and we expect he will add velocity over the next year or two.  Mechanics-wise the long-legged, lanky Charbonneau has always reminded us of Mike MacDougal with his high leg kick in the back and arm slot.

Here is what Charbonneau had to say about his recruiting process and commitment:

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Charbonneau: I have decided to attend Heidelberg University because they have a strong baseball program as well as strong academics, including two potential majors for me, Sports Management and Business Administration.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Charbonneau: Albion, Kalamazoo College, and Siena Heights

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Charbonneau: Yes, it was. I wanted to be close enough for my family to be able to see me play.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Charbonneau: The coaches first saw me at a tournament in Adrian, then saw me again at the Unsigned Senior Games this August.  I received a letter from them and got invited to campus for a visit.  On my visit they made me feel at home, and they continued to  stay in touch afterwords.  They continued to call me and form a better relationship.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Charbonneau: They expect me to come in and work hard on the field and in the classroom and compete for time.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Charbonneau: I feel my biggest strength is my ability to overcome adversity and I think it will help the team because I will be mentally tough and able to overcome certain in-game scenarios.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Charbonneau: I play for Jet Box Baseball Club and my most memorable experience this summer was being able to pitch on Adrian College's field inn the rain in the Collegiate Clash tournament.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team as you finish your senior season?
Charbonneau: Personally, I want to gain strength and velocity.  As a team, it would be nice to win districts.

PBR: Is there anyone you would like to thank or give credit to for your success?
Charbonneau: I want to thank my parents for everything they have done for me and my summer coach, Larry Feola for sacrificing his time to help coach me and make me a better player.
