Q&A with Kalamazoo Commit: David Kracht, MIF, Grosse Pointe North HS, 2013

David Kracht, SS/ 2B, Grosse Pointe North HS, 2013

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Kracht: I have decided to attend Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  This was my final choice because the combination of top-notch academics and the opportunity to play baseball is too great to pass up.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Kracht:  I was considering Florida Southern along with Albion, but Kalamazoo was the best fit for me.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Kracht: Distance was a small factor in that I did not want to be too far away from my support group of family and friends and still be able to play.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your
relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Kracht:  The coaches first saw me at the Michigan High School Baseball Showcase put on by Dave Bergman.  It was through Mr. Bergman that I was able to establish serious contact with them.  Ever since then I have been in contact with Coach Ott through text and e-mail on a weekly basis.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Kracht:  The staff believes I can come in and compete to be a key player from the start, and help in changing the culture at Kalamazoo.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Kracht: I believe I bring a unique blend of skills on the field, with a great combination of hitting, defense, and smarts.  More importantly, I think I bring in a leadership presence and a great attitude that can only benefit the team.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Kracht: I play for the Grosse Pointe Redbirds during the summer.  My most memorable experience was beating the Redbirds team that is a year older than us, and beating them convincingly.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team as you finish your senior season?
Kracht: I intend to focus on being the model of senior leadership.  I want to have my best year as a player and prove I belong where I am.  More importantly, as a team we intend to prove to everyone in the state that we can compete for our first state championship since 2006.
