Q & A with Middle Tennessee State Commit Frank Reeves (2015 RHP)

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

A few weeks ago, Frank Reeves, a 2015 RHP who pitches for the Nashville Monarchs (Home School team) in the spring and the Nashville Knights in the summer, verbally committed to Middle Tennessee State to continue his education and baseball career.

We recently caught up with Reeves to discuss his decision.

PBR:  What was it about Middle Tennessee State that made it feel like the right fit for you?

Reeves: What struck me first was the professional and supportive coaching staff.  I also was drawn to the size of the school and the educational options it offered. Lastly, I have aspired to play at the D-1 school since I was in little league and MTSU has recently moved to an even more competitive conference.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Reeves: Tennessee Tech, Belmont University, and Columbia State College.

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

Reeves:  A Perfect Game Tournament in Fort Meyers FL in 2013.

PBR: What role does Coach McGuire expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Reeves:  Coach McGuire expects me to continue to develop as a quality pitcher and student athlete.

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Reeves: God has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player.  My relationship with Him has taught me the value of discipline, team work, and humility.  My parents, my uncle Rob Day and various excellent coaches have taught me how to work hard and have spent valuable time helping me develop as a player.  These include (just a few) Allen Cougat in Houston TX, Erich Butler in Nashville, Craig Morris in Nashville, and head coach Alec Romanoff in Nashville.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Reeves: I play for The Nashville Knights 17u American team. So far the most exciting experience was a game at Overton High.  I had a big group of friends from church and family come out to watch me pitch.  MTSU was there along with a few other scouts, and I got an offer from them a few days later.

PBR: What are your goals for your upcoming senior season?

Reeves:  The main focus is to help my team have a great season.  I will also continue to work on my pitching game, focus on my changeup and add a few MPH to my fast ball, and get mentally and physically ready for college.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Tennessee?

Reeves: Drew Huff from the Knights 17u National team. I have only faced him a few times but he barrels up everything.  Not the guy you want to face in a high pressure situation.
