Q&A with unsigned senior, Blake Wellinghoff (Francis Howell Central)



Recently at the Fall Prospect Shwcase at St. Charles Community College, RHP Blake Wellinghoff made a first impression with his size, standing 6-foot-7. His performance on the mound left a lasting impression on the PBR staff, and with his performance, Wellinghoff has put himself in prime position to stay in the forefront of college coaches minds and play at the next level.

PBR recently caught up with Wellinghoff to get some of his toughts as he continues his recruiting process:

PBR: What do you expect going into your senior season?
Wellinghoff: To be the No. 1 starter for varsity

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player?
Wellinghoff: Hardwork and determination

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Wellinghoff: Continue to improve mechanics

PBR: What are your expectations and experiences in the recruiting process?
Wellinghoff: Just starting with recruiting and to receive a Scholarship

PBR: What type of program would you like to play at? What is most important to you: Caliber of program, coaching staff, academics, etc…?
Wellinghoff: Coaching staff that continues to help me improve

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Wellinghoff: Indiana, Missouri State, Southeast Missouri, Illinois State… Haven’t looked into D2 schools yet.

PBR: What were your personal goals for the 2012 season and were they met? Goals for the 2013 season?
Wellinghoff: Make the Varsity pitching staff, yes. Pitch well enough to receive a scholarship

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Wellinghoff: American Legion Central Spartans

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced?
Wellinghoff: Ryan Howard (Francis Howell Central)

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2012 baseball season (High School or Summer)?
Wellinghoff: The Legion tournament in Blue Springs in July

PBR: What is your most memorable moment in baseball so far in your life?
Wellinghoff: Starting the Legion All-Star Game

PBR: You have attended a PBR Showcase, what are your thoughts on how it will be beneficial to you as you keep moving forward in the recruiting process?
Wellinghoff: To get more visibility for college and the opinions for what I need to improve on.
