Quick Hits: DFW Fall Prospect I.D.

McKINNEY, T.X. - Sunday, our PBR Texas staff hosted the DFW Fall Prospect I.D. to a much anticipated showcase and trials on the confines of Diamond Kings Baseball Academy. The event featured a talented group of prospects from the 2022-2024. Today we highlight 20 players who really stood out during their workout in our Quick Hits Notebook. 

QUICK HITS 

Brock Bearden OF / Pleasant Grove, TX / 2022

Put together a solid day starting off with the fastest 60 yard dash with 6.51 sec. In BP, he had a top five max exit velocity of 95.80 mph hitting balls to all fields. Defensively, was 81 mph from the outfield with clean, athletic actions.

 

Jordan Shepherd OF / Mansfield Lakeridge, TX / 2022

Showed some natural athleticism throughout the day. Started off running a 7.05 sec 60 yard dash and then threw 88 mph from the outfield. In BP, he had a max exit velocity of 88.64 mph, making loud contact hitting balls from gap to gap, flashing pull-side power. 

Jonas Ledesma C / RHP / Theodore Roosevelt , TX / 2022

Had a solid day with a 2.07 pop time behind the plate with a quick release and then had a max exit velocity of 90.44 mph in BP and a max distance of 339 feet. 

 

Dante Cano LHP / 1B / Abilene Wylie , TX / 2022

Had the highest fastball velocity of the day with 89.65 mph, sitting 85-89 mph on the day. There is some funk in the arm path but shows a power arm from the left side that creates some uncomfortable at bats

Andrew Schultz 1B / RHP / Coppell, TX / 2023

Was another player who had a solid round of BP. Schultz had a max exit velocity of 89.53 mph and the highest max distance of 348 feet.

 

Maximus Vecchiet RHP / SS / Dripping Springs, TX / 2022

Had a solid day all around with a max exit velocity of 94.38 mph in BP, hitting line drives to the pull-side. Also shows an interesting look on the mound up to 83 with a short quick slider at 73 mph from a lower slot.

 

Andrew Tellia SS / RHP / Rockwall , TX / 2022

Was another infielder who had a solid day, showing hands and  feet that work well together around the ball with a strong arm. He had the highest velo across the infield at 89 mph. In BP he had a max exit velocity of 90.40 mph, hitting balls from gap to gap with regularity.

Colin Huspen RHP / OF / Allen, TX / 2022

Was another arm at the top of the fastball velo board, topping out at 86 mph. Also had a curveball with occasional depth that was 69-72.


Jack Jouett RHP / 1B / Clark, TX / 2022

Had a solid bullpen. Fastball was 84-86 T87 and curveball was 67-69. There is a lot to synchronize up with the big frame but showed well in a short outing. 

 

Dane Burns LHP / 1B / Allen , TX / 2023

Has continued to improve since we last saw him over the summer. Fastball was 83-84 T85.4 flashing arm-side run and curveball was 71-73 with tight spin and depth, max CB spin was 2731 rpm. 

Brooks Gay RHP / Abilene Wylie, TX / 2022

Pounded the zone with a downhill FB up to 86 on the day with two quality off-speed pitches to go with it. Flashed sliders at 74 with late action as well as a quality change up with good arm speed and deception.

 

Holt Gibson SS / RHP / Lubbock Cooper , TX / 2022

Was solid on the bump, topping out at 86 mph. During the workout, he was 84 across the infield and had a max exit velocity of 87.94 mph.

William Block C / 3B / Mansfield Lake Ridge, TX / 2022

Showed well on the day behind the plate. Showed a natural ability to receive the low pitch and handle multiple arms. Plenty more to come from Block down the road. 

 

JC Davis 2B / SS / Argyle, TX / 2023

Once again showed his natural defensive actions with hands and feet that work together in the field. Davis plays through ball with ease when needed and can throw from multiple arm angles. Seemed to add some strength since the summer and continued to show why he is a high level baseball player. 

Logan Myers SS / OF / Arlington Martin, TX / 2023

Had a solid day all around, running a 6.95 60 yard dash, threw 88 mph across the infield and then in BP had a max exit velocity of 95.98 mph with a max distance of 315 feet, peppering the gaps with line drives.

 

Gabriel Watson RHP / OF / Midway, TX / 2022

Had an all-around solid day as a two-way player. In BP, he had the highest max exit velocity of the day of 99.67 mph and the highest max distance of 345 feet, hitting line drives from gap to gap with regularity. From the outfield he was 91 mph, also the highest of the day. On the bump, Watson was 86-87 flashing some cutting action with two offspeed pitches, slider that was 76-79 with a max spin rate of 2862 rpm and splitter that was 78-83.

Dakota McCaskill C / RHP / Tyler Legacy, TX / 2022

Showed well during BP with a max exit velocity of 99.39 mph, hitting balls from gap to gap. Behind the dish, he had a pop time of 2.06 sec with a velo of 79 mph. 

Colton Cross RHP / 2B / Arp, TX / 2023

Showed a quick arm on the day, throwing 86 mph across the diamond on the infield and 84 mph from the outfield. In BP, he had a max exit velocity of 86.12 mph hitting the ball well from gap to gap. 

Braden Ballenger OF / Nacogdoches , TX / 2022

A natural athlete running a 6.87 sec 60 yard dash to start the day and then threw 81 mph from the outfield. In BP, he had a max exit velocity of 85.04 mph, peppering the gaps with line drives.

 

Tanner Sever SS / 2B / Coppell , TX / 2023

Had a quality round of BP with a max exit velocity of 94.62 mph, hitting balls from gap to gap flashing pull-side power. Defensively, he showed clean actions with soft hands, throwing 80 mph across the infield.
