Recapping the Fall Prospect Program at Ohio University





The fourth location for Ohio’s Fall Prospect Program was held at Ohio University’s Bob Wren Stadium. Three different matchups took place, as Team 1 vs. Team 5, Team 3 vs. Team 4, and Team 2 vs. Team 6 squared off.  The Programs final location will take place at Ohio Wesleyan, September 22nd.

Below are top performers, and pitcher velocities for each team:



Top Performers Team 1:

Middle infielder David Savron swung the bat well in the early morning game at OU.  Savron, featuring a short compact swing went 2-4 with both hits being singles.

Both Mathis Newman and John Kunakowsky squared up and drove the ball deep while recording doubles.

Outfielder David Chrostowski reached base twice in four at bats, and lined a single to left in his last at bat.

Newcomer to the Fall Program Zane Harris showed he could swing it as the ball jumped off his bat multiple times.  The left-handed hitter smashed a double to left center, and was also robbed of a line drive hit to center.

Top Performers Team 5:

One of the best at bats for Team 5 was by 2nd baseman Tyler Neal.  Neal’s smooth left-handed bat stroked a triple right field.

Josh Carver added a hit to his resume when he beat out an infield single.

Left-handed pitcher Ty Phelps had a strong inning of work striking out 2 of 4 batters.  Phelps featured an 80-83mph fastball, a 68-71mph curveball, and on occasion threw a 75mph slider.

Recently joining the Fall Program was Chris Wooten.  The right-handed hurler sat 79-81 on the mound, with a 64mph breaker.  After two strong innings, Wooten was able to strike out 5 out of 10 hitters, and only allowed one hit.

Top Performers Team 3:

Middle infielder Gino DeMarino had one of the more impressive days for Team 3.  The 2015 grad showed good pop in his bat as he doubled to right center in his second at bat.  Also, on defense Demarino showed off his soft hands, with a surprisingly quick transfer when he turned a double play in the 7th.

Once again Loveland prospect Joshua Meszaros had another strong day at the plate.  Going 2 for 3, Meszaros doubled backside to right center, and also added a line drive single in the 4th.

Collin Floyd of Akron Springfield has stood himself out as a top two-way player on Team 3.  The 2015 grad added another 2 for 3 hit day to his resume.  On the mound, the southpaw sat in the low 80’s with a 65-66ph breaking ball that show good depth.

Racco DiLauro, Anthony Cerreto, Kyle Stevenson, and Ben Beachy all went 1 for 3 at the dish.

Josh Rogers, RHP, Bellbrook, 2015: FB 80-83, CH 73

Racco Dilauro, RHP, Akron Springfield, 2015: FB 76-77, CB 67-69

Ben Beachy, RHP, Springboro, 2015: FB 77-79, CB 60-62



Top Performers Team 4:

Middle infielder Spencer Howell had a strong day at the plate going 2 for 3.  The 2015 grad showed good actions on the base paths, as he was always looking to steal an extra base.

Matthew Matthaes has proven himself as one of the better hitting catchers in the Program.  Once again, Matthaes had a multi hit game going 2 for 3 with a double and a single.

Another catcher with a good stick is left handed hitter, Joseph McGuinness.  The 2015 grad featured a smooth stroke when he tripled deep to right field.

Chris Seibert, Blake Sells, and Charlie Lutwen all put good at bats together allowing them to reach base multiple times.

Top Performers Team 2:

Top corner infielder Ricky Silvestri had his best day at OU.  Silvestri went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, and a triple smoked to left center.

Unsigned outfielder Sam Montgomery has consistently put together strong weekends in the Prospect Program.  Montgomery had another 2 for 3 day at the plate.

Catcher David Van Hove went 2 for 3 at the plate driving a single to left, and a double to deep left center.  Behind the plate, Van Hove is a workhorse, always blocking balls in the dirt, and backing up plays in the field.

Robert Engle, Patrick Birrer, and Spencer Yankle put together quality at bats while going 1 for 3.

Top Performers Team 6:

Going 2 for 3 at the dish was outfielder Carson Glover.  The left-handed hitter has a smooth left handed swing that projects a high contact rate.

Middle infielder Paul Smith showed off his strength hitting a double down the right field line, and stretching that hit into a triple with his good speed.

Right-handed pitcher Evan Moores looked good during his first action in the Fall Program.  Moores fastball sat 79-81 with substantial arm-side run.  He paired his fastball with a 75 mph changeup with good fading action.

Newcomer, Brett Bosel featured a powerful bat for Team 6 smoking a ball to left center, resulting in a double.
