#2 Colgan 5, #3 Freedom (South Riding) 1

Despite a delayed start and ultimately a shortened ending, we got the first matchup between the top two Class 6 teams in Northern Virginia on Thursday night as Freedom traveled to Colgan for the Region 6B Championship.  Freedom took an early 1-0 lead after Mason Butash (Penn State) doubled to deep centerfield. Freedom starter Tyler Smith (Ferrum) worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the first, but would be replaced by Ryan Morrison (CNU) in the second after Smith found himself in another bases loaded jam. In the bottom of the second, two batters after Carter Newman (Virginia Tech) singled home the tying run, Dayton commit Jae'dan Carter capitalized on one of the few fastballs that Morrison threw that inning. Carter drove the 84 mph offering to right center and scored two more Sharks, making it 3-1. Colgan starter Brandon Cassedy settled in after the first and worked pretty quick and clean second through fifth innings. Evan Blanchard would seal the weather shortened championship game with a two run single in the bottom of the fourth and the Colgan Sharks are your 6B Regional Champions. Both teams will play in the 6A State Championships next week.
