Rising Stars of Southern Nevada: Quick Hits

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Rising Stars of Southern Nevada event attracted an exciting group of up and coming prospects that you will want to have on your radar in the coming years. The players were put through a Pro-Style Workout where a handful of athletes made immediate impressions on the Prep Baseball Report staff and solidified themselves strong consideration to represent Nevada against the rest of the country at the 2021 Junior Future Games in Emerson, Georgia.

Tanner Johns / 2025

Johns came into the Rising Stars of Southern Nevada with some hype around him as a guy who is already among the top players in Nevada's 2025 class and he did not disappoint. His quiet confidence throughout his game was present with a batting practice round that posted one of the Exit Velocities of the day at 90.54 mph (TrackMan) then hopped on the mound to throw one of the best bullpens of the day with flashes of feel for his three pitch mix that featured a fastball that topped out at 76.72 mph with a sweeping slider and developing change up that showed some fading action. At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, he he still has plenty of room to grow into his frame and which leads us to believe he will be an exciting player to follow throughout his prep career.

Ethan Clauss / 2025

The Junior Future Games alum was on of the top bats on last year's team and he seems to have only gotten better with obvious improvements throughout his game. His physical development is a major contributing factor with positive progress being made in almost every statistical category as well as the areas that weren't measure like lateral range, footwork and balance at the plate. Clauss is another player who has already worked his way into to conversation among the top players in Nevada's 2025 Class with much more to come as he continues to add strength to his frame.

Colton Springall / 2026

Springall was one of the top 2026 players attend the Rising Stars event with a smooth, simple left handed stroke that he used to spray the ball all over the yard with a balanced set up. Already 5-foot-10 and only standing at 145 pounds, the upside on this physically developing player who already possesses some advanced action is going to be something to keep tabs on for the coming years. Defensively, he showcases promising action with some fluidity through the ball and clean footwork that helped him get directional to his target.

Vandon Welter / 2025

Welter, who also attended the 2020 Junior Future Games, is another example of what a year could to do to help a player take his game to another level. The broad shouldered outfielder posted the event's Top Exit Velocity at 91.96 mph (TrackMan) while also finding himself near the top of the leaderboard for the Top Average Exit Velocity at 83.09 mph (TrackMan), showcasing his ability to routinely find the barrel throughout his batting practice round. On the defensive side of the ball, he showed easy actions through the ball with active feet to help him get on-line to his target where earned one of the Outfield Velocities at 76 mph.

Cayden Rodgers-Ramirez / 2026

Rodgers-Ramirez came into the Rising Stars event as a relative unknown, but left the event making a significant impression on the Prep Baseball Report staff. The two-way player stayed in the big part of the yard throughout his batting practice round, then found himself just off the top of the Outfield Velocity leaderboard with a 75 mph effort. But, on the mound is where he shined with his fastball topping out at 79.42 mph with advanced feel for his breaking ball and changeup that he was able to locate in the zone. This is a guy who is still undecided as to where he will be attending high school, but will be a great addition to wherever he ends up.
