Rookie Review: '26 OF Logan Newcomb (CBA-Albany)

As we make our way through the spring and into the summer months, our staff will be rolling out a series of in-depth pieces on uncommitted talent in the empire state.

ID: Capital Region featured (70) total prospects on February 22 at AllStars Academy in Latham, NY, where rookie '26 OF Logan Newcomb stood out with A/AVG feel on either side of the ball. From a lean, ATH 5-foot-10, 165-pound build, there's much more to be had.

Logan Newcomb OF / C / CBA - Albany, NY / 2026

What We Liked: It wasn't just the measurables that impressed, as he maintained a loose stance with the ability to keep the barrel long through the zone. Hit out of a strong position; higher start with the lower-half making the first move. Connected to the ground in the approach and was on the sweet spot often (58%), adding a T95MPH EV. When projecting future power, there's clean barrel-whip and some leverage from the RH box. Not afraid to deliver the bat early with a quick trigger at 22MPH hand-speed. Defensively, Newcomb could be a middle of the field athlete, going 1.63/3.87 10-30 YD splits while unleashing a loud 88MPH arm-strength from the OF. Also moved behind the plate, though the actions remained slightly raw.

What to Improve: Occasional left arm-bar when creating separation at the load, but flashed feel to adjust all over. The leg-lift is still a bigger move and caused periodic heavy, forward weight-shift. Future power will arrive in waves, as he continues getting ready earlier/easier. Defensively, there's room to add to the catching skillset. Some variation out of a traditional stance when receiving and relies on his big arm. Checks the boxes of a confident ATH in space (OF).

Synopsis: Just looking at the natural tools, there's some intrigue across the board. Rotates very well for size and has already found an aggressive approach at such a young age. As the body gets refined, including more loft in the swing will = huge success. The roots are already there to be a top-of-the-order, starting CF. Wound't be surprised if he sees some mound action, too.
