Rose-Hulman Commit Hits 3-Run Homerun to Lift Northview Past Mooresville

Plainfield, IN---Northview topped Mooresville 6-4 in a back and forth battle Wednesday night to advance in the Plainfield sectional.  Rose-Hulman commit Zach Hull’s (2012) 3 run blast in the fifth proved to be the difference in this first round matchup.

The first run of the game came in the third when Hull singled to score TJ Decker (2012). Mooresville would answer back in the bottom half with a run as Austin Brinkley (2013) singled to score Nathan Gilbert (2013) tying the game at one a piece. Mooresville added two more in the fourth, but that lead would be short lived as Hull homered the next half inning making the score 4-3.  Mooresville managed to tie the game in their half of the fifth at 4-4.  Northview would take the lead back in the sixth when Connor Pierce (2014) singled in Decker and then came around to score on an error.  This would bring the score to 6-4 and that is where it stayed as Northview advances.

Unsigned senior TJ Decker had a great performance on the mound as well as at the plate. He threw all seven innings and got the win for Northview.  Decker’s performance was highlighted by his 11 strike outs.

Despite the loss Mooresville has a bright future with freshman Justin Martin.  Martin came in for relief in the fifth with the bases loaded and got out of the jam by striking out 3 consecutive batters.  In Martin’s three innings of work he struck out six while giving up two runs on one hit.
