With teams from across the state wrapping up their preseason practice schedule we had the opportunity to discuss the upcoming season with Maumelle Head Coach Barrett Davis about his young group as they move up in classification and begin life in the 5A west.

PBR: What are your expectations for your team this spring?

Davis: Compete. We have a group this year that is hard working and coachable. I don’t know what to expect as far as wins and loses but our guys will compete every pitch.

PBR: Who is going to be your key contributors on the mound this spring?

Davis: 2015 RHP Chad Cox
            2016 RHP/MIF Ryan Hunter
            2016 RHP Caleb Disterdick

PBR: For your offense to be effective who do you expect to set the table? Who do you expect to drive in runs?

Davis: For our offense to be good we need K’Ron Summons and Ryan Hunter to set the table and seniors Chad Cox and Brandon Carter to get the big hits and drive runs in.

PBR: Which Seniors are you going to lean on for leadership?

Davis: Chad Cox and K’Ron Summons, they are experienced players for us, that work very hard and try to do the all the little things correctly.

PBR: Which Underclassmen do you need to step up and fill a void by last year’s seniors?

Davis: We lost a large group of seniors in 2014 we expect contributions from a lot of young guys.
2016: Ryan Hunter, Harrison Rutledge, Caleb Disterdick, Alec Bishop
2017: Nick Grimsley, JD Bengston, Shelby Quiggins
2018: Connor McCullough, Andrew Howard

PBR: Who is the team to beat in your conference/ your classification?

Davis: Greenbrier will be the team to beat in the 5A west and should challenge for the state title

PBR: What is your biggest non-conference game and why?

Davis: Rogers: Getting to play a 7A school on the road on a Friday night will be a great experience for our players
