Joey Bowers sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave No. 2 Sherwood the 1-0 victory in the 4A North Region Championship game on Friday afternoon.

It was a pitchers duel as both starters, Ben Vok (Frostburg St.) for Sherwood, and Wilson Farlow for Dulaney, dealt throughout the game. Vok was able to go 7.2 innings before the pitch count rule came into effect and he was forced to leave the game. Farlow went 4.2 innings without giving up a run and Cole McGee, came in and pitched very well in a relief effort for the Lions.

Both teams were able to threaten with runners in scoring position throughout the game, but Vok, Farlow, and later McGee would always seem to come up with the important pitch to keep their team in the game. As we headed into the bottom of the eighth things got started for Sherwood.

Luke Cheng led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Bowers would come up next and originally began the at bat attempting to sacrifice bunt Cheng over to third. Dulaney was crashing hard on the corners, so after the first pitch did not get put in play, Sherwood attempted a slash to give them the advantage. After a failed attempt, Bowers again squared up to sacrifice bunt the runner over, but a passed ball allowed Cheng to advance without the Warriors giving up an out. Bowers would finally get a pitch that he flicked to right field just far enough to allow Cheng to score the game winning run.

Vok Struck out eight in his 7.2 innings of work scattering three hits and two walks. Cheng led the Warriors with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Bradshaw Steeley, JP Yore, and Ethan Giacolone had the other hits for Sherwood.

Farlow gave up two hits in his 4.2 innings of work while striking out three and walking two. McGee would add 2.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits and one walk. Connor Stewart, Todd Mozoki, and Jack Felt each had hits for No. 5 Dulaney.
